The Tool Design Engineer will be responsible for undertaking a range of tasks in support of tooling used in the manufacture of aircraft components and assemblies. The incumbent will undertake the investigation and resolution of tooling issues including new & modified tooling designs, tooling dispositions, preparation of tooling use instructions, and the provision of technical support to Tooling Quality Assurance.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS (REQUIRED SKILLS / EXPERIENCE):

  • Bachelors degree in Mechanical engineering or equivalent
  • Experience using CATIA V5 software favorable
  • Good written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated skills in problem solving
  • Exposure to Quality Assurance processes and procedures
  • Understanding of OH&S implications within the field
  • Familiar with use of email, databases, Internet and Microsoft Windows & Office suite of Tools
  • All candidates must have full, unrestricted working rights
    This is an Enterprise Bargaining Agreement position and classified as an Engineer 1A.

Responsibilities
  • Investigation and timely resolution of tooling issues / problems encountered during production
  • Assessment and disposition of Tool Non-Conformance issues
  • Development and preparation of tooling designs and drawings for both new and modified production tooling
  • Maintaining tool configuration control through the effective use of the BAA TRACS database system
  • Provision of technical support to Tool Quality Assurance including analysis and verification of data produced by co-ordinate measuring machines
  • Liaison with internal and external suppliers to achieve timely and cost-effective tool modification / manufacture
  • Ensuring that tooling designs prepared comply with government and state legislation and regulations as they relate to OH&S requirements
  • Ensuring the delivery of all work assignments are completed in an effective and efficient manner
