Description

SUMMARY:

Tool Design Engineers are responsible for the design of new tools as well as making improvements to existing ones. They are responsible for creating CAD models and drawings, determining tool specifications and production as well as carrying out calculations to establish tools cost, materials, and dimensions.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

? Ability to partner with Manufacturing Engineering, Toolmakers, other Production Operation teams and external suppliers
? Ability to work in a fast pace production environment
? Knowledge of robotic programming welding practices a plus
? Knowledge of laser cutting and sheet metal fabrication
? Experience establishing cost effective tool and fixture designs that support machined metal, and welding part production processes is a plus
? Significant experience designing fixtures with Solidworks
? Understanding of advanced tool design requirements
? Experience using GD&T
? Ability to develop clean sheet tool concept based on weldment prints
? PDM Experience
? Ability to work independently and to collaborate with others
? Versatility, flexibility, and a willingness to work within constantly changing priorities with enthusiasm
? Proven ability to handle multiple projects and meet deadlines
Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS:

? Background in tooling machining techniques and manufacturing practices
? Understanding of welding techniques and processes
? Background in the mechanical, physical and ergonomic aspects as part of proper tool design
? Proficiency in SolidWorks or similar

Responsibilities

? Designs tooling and gaging utilizing CAD and AutoCAD system upon request
? Oversees Engineering and Manufacturing tooling production needs
? Coordinates tooling and routing requirements
? Estimates tooling, design and fabrication costs
? Provides recommendations to Vendors, Designers, Engineers, R&D, Quality Assurance and Manufacturing Engineers to resolve part and fabrication fixturing problems utilizing reduced content practices
? Creates, updates, and maintains tool drawings, files and records
? Identifies and implements continuous productivity and quality improvements
? Maintains the work area and equipment in a clean, orderly condition and follows prescribed safety procedures
? Adheres to company quality protocols and processes
? Works with Quality Assurance team to develop quality assurance parameters on existing and new tooling designs
? Perform job duties in an ethical, professional manner which is consistent with the H&S handbook
? Performs other related duties as assigned by management
