TOURISM HOSPITALITY AND CATERING ASSISTANT

Location: Cwmcarn Forest Drive, Risca, Newport, NP1 7FA
Start Date: ASAP
Contract Duration: 2+ Months
Working Hours: Mon – Fri, 09:00 – 17:00, 37 Hours per week
Pay Rate: £ 12.65 per hour

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the preparation and sale of food and beverages.
  • Support the delivery of key visitor services at attractions.
  • Help achieve and exceed key performance targets.
  • Welcome visitors and handle visitor-related enquiries.
  • Provide an impeccable level of customer service.
  • Deliver a comprehensive catering and retail service.
  • Handle cash and card transactions for the sale of goods and services.
  • Undertake cleansing duties as required to maintain the facility.
  • Contribute to the accurate accounting of cash and card transactions.
  • Ensure the correct handling and storage of food.
  • Use and maintain catering equipment safely and appropriately.
  • Assist with the accurate recording of temperatures in line with food safety legislation.
  • Work across various attractions within the county borough of Caerphilly as needed.
  • Adhere to working hours that include evenings, weekends, bank holidays, and potentially night-time shifts.
  • Engage in physical activity, including standing for long periods and lifting or carrying supplies.
  • Use hazardous substances safely for cleaning catering equipment.
  • Manage interactions with customers, including handling challenging situations diplomatically.
  • Wear provided uniform and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) at all times.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to Council policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrate commitment to ongoing personal development.

Person Specification

  • Qualifications: Level 2 Food Safety awareness or ability to obtain this qualification within 3 months of taking up the post.
  • Knowledge:
  • A good knowledge of the county borough’s tourism product.
  • A good understanding of health and safety practices.
  • Skills:
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good numeracy skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and adapt to changing needs.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and workloads to achieve high customer service standards.
  • Ability to deal politely and professionally with a diverse range of customers.
  • Welsh language skills are desirable.
  • Experience:
  • Experience working in a customer-focused environment.
  • Experience in a hospitality and catering role.
  • Other: Ability to work across the estate of visitor attractions throughout the County Borough of Caerphilly.
