The Town of Eastport is one of seven communities that make up the Eastport Peninsula. The governance structure of the Peninsula consists of five Councils and one Local Service District. Eastport, being the largest and most centralized community, administers the Eastport Peninsula Volunteer Fire Department, a shared services arrangement with the adjacent Towns of Salvage and Happy Adventure and collaborates with the others through a regular Joint Councils forum. The Town is a hub for services including a K-12 school, community health centre, pharmacy, grocery store, gas station/convenience store/liquor express, full-service post office; the Beaches Arts and Heritage Centre, Beaches Library, Peninsula Memorial Park and Playground as well as other businesses, organizations and services.
The Peninsula is strategically located on the northeast edge of Terra Nova National Park and between the regional service centres of Clarenville to the East and Gander to West. With its vibrant arts and cultural heritage, popular community festivals, ample tourist accommodations, unequalled scenic beauty, and renowned beaches, it has long been a popular tourist destination.
Eastport is hiring a Town Clerk/Manager and is inviting anyone with a passion for municipal government, a collaborative leadership style, and a desire to improve the quality of life of residents and visitors alike to apply. Reporting to Council, the Town Clerk/Manager is required to: liaise with relevant government departments and adjacent communities; manage relationships with a variety of stakeholders, human resources, day-to-day operations, capital works projects, safety and risks; prepare annual budgets and financial reports; and ensure the delivery of efficient and effective municipal programs and services. The Clerk/Manager is also responsible for oversight of all work planning and providing timely, well researched advice to support decisions of Council and regularly reporting on implementation.
The Town Clerk/Manager will have minimum qualifications that includes a university degree or college diploma in Business Administration, Public Administration, Engineering, Planning or related academic education, together with a minimum of five (5) years managerial or administrative experience. Experience or knowledge in project management, mechanical or heavy equipment operations, capital works and infrastructure would be an asset. Proven interpersonal, collaboration, written and oral communication skills abilities are required. The position will require some evening work and is amenable to a flexible work schedule.
This is a fulltime position with competitive compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications and a competitive benefits package.
Applicants are required to submit a covering letter and up to date resume electronically to townclerk@eastport.ca by 4:00 pm Friday, September 12, 2025. Following interviews, two employment references, including the most recent supervisor, will be requested from a short list of candidates only.
Note: Consideration will also be given to an interim contract for a minimum of three months (i.e., until end December 2025) with possibility of extension while recruitment of a permanent manager proceeds. Please indicate if this is your only interest.
We thank all applicants and advise only those considered for an interview will be contacted.
This position will remain open until filled.
