Description:

JOB SUMMARY

Directing work groups on active railway property and through construction zones. Using specific railway operating rules, instructions and techniques, this position ensures that contractors clear the working zone prior to the approach of a train minimizing any delays to scheduled railway operations. Work is located throughout BC primarily in Lower Mainland

QUALIFICATIONS

  • A minimum of 4 years related job experience in the railway industry.
  • Track Inspection Guidelines certification is an asset
  • Certified in Canadian Railway Operating Rules
  • Ability to read and understand specific documents including schedules, standard railwayplans and specifications.
  • Ability to work in a safety sensitive position directing work groups on live railwaycorridors
  • Knowledge of the occupational hazards, railway engineering safety regulations andsafety precautions of the work being performed.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Proficient use of computers, tablets etc.
  • Valid Drivers License

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Works outdoors at construction sites and may be exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather.
  • Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as standing, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending and handling of materials, equipment and tools.
  • Uses hands and fingers to grasp, manipulate, and/or assemble objects and tools.
  • Lifts, pushes, pulls, and carries heavy objects, machinery and tools up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Exposed to loud noise.
  • Walking for several miles each day on un-even surfaces.
  • Significant travel away from home is required, rotating shifts, overtime, weekends and some night work.
  • May be exposed to live track/trains and high voltage.
  • Must wear appropriate safety equipment, such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection, as required by the company.
  • Working with hazardous materials including, but not limited to various petroleum products and will have regular exposure to dusty conditions.

Responsibilities:

  • Embrace our safety culture and adhering to industry and company policies andprocedures
  • Conducts daily job briefings in order that all contractors understand site specificinstructions prior to commencing work
  • Review the work site on a minimum daily basis and consults with Supervisor and orcontractors representative to understand work being conducted, and any potentialhazards
  • Set up, reposition and dismantle railway specific signals (flags) at designated locations
  • Communicate effectively with the work group being protected, other flagmen and RailTraffic Controllers using established procedures and radio equipment to ensure theunderstanding of instructions, track protection limits, work site hazards and other specificsite conditions
  • Responsibly operates company vehicles and ensures all daily maintenance andinspections of the units are completed
  • Performs special duties as assigned by the Capital Supervisor
  • Performs any administrative duties related to proper documentation as per PNR QualityManagement System
