ABOUT THE ROLE
We’re looking for a dynamic, people-centred Track scales Contractor Management Supervisor to join the Rail Network Maintenance (RNM) Inland Track Team based out of West Angelas.
As the Track Scales Contractor Management Supervisor (CMS), you’ll be the on-the-ground coordinator responsible for managing contractor crews performing mechanical, electrical, calibration, and cleaning activities on weigh scale systems. Coordination, and support for the maintenance and reliability of 17 track-mounted weigh scales across 11 mine sites.
This critical role ensures the safe, accurate, and compliant operation of all track scale assets, directly supporting operational efficiency and regulatory standards
You will serve as the key operational link between site teams, contractors, OEM vendors, and internal stakeholders ensuring safety, compliance, and performance are never compromised.
You’ll work closely with operational leaders, frontline teams, and technical professionals to enhance systems, build capability, and strengthen risk management—ensuring safety remains core to how we operate every day.
Reporting to the Inland Track Superintendent you will be you’ll be responsible for
- Contractor Oversight & Field Supervision
- Provide daily field-based supervision of contractors performing scale maintenance, calibration, and cleaning.
- Ensure execution aligns with scope, schedule, quality, and HSE requirements.
- Be physically present during site work to confirm safe and compliant execution.
- Maintenance Planning & Execution
- Coordinate quarterly preventive maintenance campaigns across all 11 mine sites.
- Align with planners, schedulers, and site teams to ensure readiness and work order accuracy.
- Use SAP and relevant systems to track, manage, and close out maintenance activities. Adhere to work management processes, including timely completion of work, proper documentation, and closing out of work orders via SAP.
- Contractor Mobilisation & Compliance
- Oversee contractor onboarding and site integration according to CM procedures.
- Ensure all inductions, qualifications, and risk controls are in place prior to execution.
- Verify adherence to WHS (Mines) Regulations for calibration requirements.
- Performance Management & Reporting
- Monitor contractor KPIs and execution against scope of work (SoW).
- Maintain accurate exposure hours and performance logs.
- Participate in performance reviews and support invoice validation and variation tracking.
- Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with Mine CMS, site leadership, E&I teams, OEM vendors, and Procurement.
- Act as the first point of contact for contractor-related escalations or resource issues.
- Safety & Technical Leadership
- Lead by example in field safety practices and contractor engagement.
- Ensure compliance with HSE, CRM, and cost management processes.
- Leverage SAP and related platforms to track warranties, work records, and part availability.
- Champion best practices for contractor-led track scale maintenance and reliability.
Develop training materials and coach site teams to improve operational consistency and capability.
- Ensure all work is conducted in compliance with relevant legislative requirements, Rio Tinto standards, policies, and procedures.
- Actively promote a positive safety culture, fostering safety awareness and compliance across the team.
- Collaborate with other functions and stakeholders to enhance system performance and reliability.
- Manage vendor relationships both on and off-site to support asset protection equipment and maintenance activities.
