Overview Trade Compliance Director – Remote (UK/EU) Morgan Advanced Materials makes high‑performance materials that keep extremely hot, extremely fast or extremely sensitive things working safely. Thermal Ceramics is one of its global businesses, and it needs someone who knows international trade compliance inside out—and is happy rolling their sleeves up as well as steering the strategy.If you want a role that mixes strategic influence with real operational involvement (not just approving PowerPoints), this is it. The Role You’ll lead trade compliance for Thermal Ceramics globally. Part advisor, part problem‑solver, part “the person everyone calls when things get tricky,” you’ll make sure the business moves quickly while staying on the right side of export controls, sanctions, and customs rules.Some days you’ll shape policies, influence senior leaders, and work with global regulators. Other days you’ll help someone resolve a customs query or untangle a licensing issue. It’s a genuine mix—and you’ll own it Responsibilities Key Responsibilities Lead and embed trade compliance and sanctions requirements across Thermal Ceramics Run strategic initiatives to improve, automate, and modernise compliance processes Advise on compliance implications for M&A, new markets, and new products Manage day‑to‑day export/import operations escalated from the business Partner with regulators (ECJU, BAFA, customs bodies) to resolve issues and keep things moving Oversee classification, jurisdiction checks, licensing, and documentation accuracy Investigate compliance deviations and drive corrective actions Manage denied‑party screening, anti‑boycott compliance, and valuation processes Deliver practical support to operational teams when shipments or authorisations get messy Lead training on export controls, sanctions, and controlled goods handling Monitor regulatory changes and act quickly to keep the business compliant Qualifications About You 10–15 years in trade compliance, with at least 5 leading global or multi‑region compliance efforts Strong working knowledge of UK export controls, EU dual‑use/military regimes, ITAR/EAR, and trade agreements Comfortable managing both big‑picture strategy and hands‑on tactical work (and lived to tell the tale) Solid experience with ERP systems and compliance tools Able to influence senior stakeholders without needing a 40‑slide deck Analytical, pragmatic, and calm when things get complex Strong communicator; English required, extra EU languages welcome Happy with occasional travel (around 20%) Nice to Have Experience in manufacturing, materials, aerospace, or related sectors Familiarity with AEO or similar certification schemes What You’ll Get A senior role with real ownership, the backing of a global organisation, and the chance to shape how a major business manages trade compliance.
