Summary (Position Description): Seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Import/Export Compliance Specialist to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of international trade regulations, including customs laws, export controls, and sanctions. This role will be responsible for ensuring compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, managing export licenses, and providing guidance to internal stakeholders.

COMPETENCIES (KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES):

  • Knowledge of special trade programs such Free Trade Agreements, GSP, Anti-Dumping, VAT, Duty Drawback and other reduced duty programs.
  • Knowledge of the Export Administration Regulations (EAR), Office of Foreign Assets (OFAC), Foreign Trade Regulations (FTR), Non-US export controls, the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR), and US and Global Customs Regulations.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in international business, supply chain management, or a related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in import/export compliance.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. export control regulations (ITAR, EAR) and customs regulations (CFR 19).
  • Knowledge of international trade agreements and free trade zones.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Must have strong competency of SAP.
  • This position will require travel between Georgia and New York occasionally.

Responsibilities
  • Plans, documents, and implements all Local, National and International Trade Compliance Policies and Procedures, as necessary, to ensure compliance with U.S. export and import laws and regulations
  • Manage Duty Draw back program working with Import shipping companies
  • Identifies program specific import and export requirements, obtaining detailed information from business development, customer support, procurement, and contract resources on trade related initiatives.
  • Identifies all departments and employees involved with import and export activities, conducts appropriate training for such departments and employees, including training of new employees, and for the maintenance of training records.
  • Assists with import trade agreement certificate collection, reviews and country of origin verification
  • Develops and implements any necessary internal process review mechanisms to assess Trade Compliance levels, including the assigning of any needed corrective actions and all needed follow-up to ensure completion of those corrective actions.
  • Assists in providing import/export compliance guidance in support of contracts, procurement, sales, business development, logistics, and other stakeholders.
  • Assists in monitoring government trade and industry developments.
  • Ensures proper import/export recordkeeping requirements are met
  • Creates and updates Trade Compliance Manuals, Policies and Procedures as appropriate.
  • Identifies cost saving opportunities related to free trade agreement preferential duty treatment and other tariff
  • Maintaining legal records to ensure proof of compliance.
  • Reviews the use of licenses, exemptions and exceptions for shipments and information exports, including deemed exports.
  • Prepares and/or revises compliance related forms and business flowcharts.
  • Collaborates regularly with appropriate stakeholders and with shipping logistics on issues which relate to both trade compliance and logistics.
  • Identifies gaps in compliance and methods for process and procedure improvements.
  • Prepare reports and documents for external regulatory bodies as appropriate.
  • Manage internal documentation to match Export of completed units to importation of components.
  • Performs other duties as assigned
