The Opportunity.
Our Ottawa office is currently looking for an experienced Trademark Associate to join our national Trademark Group. In this role, you will work alongside world-class IP practitioners and thought leaders who provide clients with sophisticated yet practical advice in all areas of trademark law.
As a member of the Smart & Biggar team, you will have the opportunity to work with, and advise, the owners of some of the world’s biggest and most valuable brands. Qualifications, competencies, and experience.

  • A law degree from a recognized law school, called to the Bar of a jurisdiction in Canada, and a member of the applicable law society or Bar association
  • A minimum of 3-5 years of post-call experience in trademark prosecution
  • Experience in preparing responses to Examiners’ Reports issued by the CIPO
  • Experience in preparing trademark clearance opinions and providing portfolio management advice
  • Experience in contentious trademark matters, including proceedings before the TMOB
  • An acute attention to detail and experience in managing complex legal matters
  • A strong dedication to service excellence, providing clients with high-quality, strategic counsel
  • An unwavering commitment to hard work and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment
