GLOBAL LEGAL

Hybrid Work- on average 3 days a week from office
We are seeking Trademark Counsel to join our Global Trademarks Group! This role will provide strategic legal advice and support on global trademark matters, including clearance, prosecution, enforcement, and business development transactional matters.
You will oversee and manage the entire trademark portfolio for specific Therapeutic Area(s). This role is critical to ensuring the brand equity, goodwill, and integrity of AstraZeneca’s valuable product brands associated with the company’s robust pipeline and commercial portfolio. You will work cross-functionally with other legal colleagues, commercial, marketing, regulatory specialists, and external partners to support the full lifecycle of trademark asset management from creation, selection, prosecution, maintenance, enforcement, defense, and externalization within a highly regulated and fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO

  • Conduct trademark clearance searches and prepare analysis reports.
  • Advise on brand strategy, risk assessments, and naming projects in collaboration with cross-functional teams including Marketing, Regulatory, and other key business stakeholders.
  • Manage prosecution and maintenance of U.S. and international trademark applications and registrations.
  • Draft and negotiate trademark-related agreements, including coexistence, license, and assignment agreements.
  • Provide training and guidance to internal clients on trademark use, protection, and enforcement.
  • Support due diligence and integration efforts in mergers and acquisitions (M&A) and licensing transactions involving trademark assets.
  • Partner with commercial, marketing, and regulatory teams to support product launches and brand strategy.
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders and external counsel on complex trademark matters.
  • Support IP due diligence and assist with transactional work including M&A, licensing, divestments, and acquisitions.
  • Manage outside counsel and coordinate trademark filings across jurisdictions.
  • Monitor and respond to infringement risks, oppositions, and cancellations.
  • Monitor industry developments and regulatory changes affecting pharmaceutical trademarks.

ESSENTIAL FOR THE ROLE

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or equivalent legal degree with admission to practice in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in trademark law
  • Strong understanding of global trademark laws, portfolio management, and enforcement strategies.
  • Knowledge and expertise of the pharmaceutical regulatory environment and brand protection challenges.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, global environment.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and trademark docketing software.

DESIRABLE FOR THE ROLE

  • In-house legal experience within a pharmaceutical company.
  • A mix of law firm and in-house experience.
  • Familiarity with Trademark aspects of M&A, licensing, and collaboration agreements.
  • Tech-savvy mentality and openness to innovation and digital tools.
