This is skilled technical work at the journeyperson level performing a variety of electrical maintenance, repair, and installation tasks for the City. An employee of this class performs a variety of repairs, wiring and related maintenance tasks at City facilities related to electrical systems, alarms, lighting, heating, fans, pumps and emergency power systems; installs aboveground and underground duct work and cabling; and may supervise the work of one or more subordinates engaged in less skilled tasks. Considerable independent judgement is exercised in dealing with technical work problems involving the installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems. Assignments are outlined in general terms by a supervisor who checks the work during progress and upon completion and the attainment of desired results. Performs related work as required.
Qualifications include completion of Grade 12, supplemented by the completion of a recognized Trade Certificate of Qualification – Electrician plus considerable experience at the journeyperson level; or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Thorough knowledge of the statutes, bylaws, rules, regulations and policies applicable to civic facilities operations and the Canadian Electrical Code. Ability to perform a variety of skilled electrical tasks with minimal supervision. Ability to operate a truck, lifts (such as scissor, boom, bucket truck), a variety of small hand tools and electrical testing equipment. Ability to assign and supervise the work of staff. A Driver’s License for the Province of British Columbia and Certificate of Qualification-Electrician are required.
