Access to Ventia’s amazing discounts at over 450 retailers across Australia, including major retail brands About the role The Trades Assistant role supports the operational readiness of Special Forces Training Facilities by delivering safe, high‑quality maintenance and technical support. This includes planned and reactive maintenance, minor works, and assistance across buildings, training structures, and base infrastructure to ensure assets remain reliable and compliant. Working closely with supervisors, specialist trades, contractors and Defence personnel, the role focuses on safe work practices, enabling live‑fire, simulated and instrumented training environments to operate effectively. Key responsibilities include (but are not limited to): Perform planned and reactive maintenance across buildings, training structures and base infrastructure Support safe operation of facilities used for live‑fire, simulated and instrumented training Assist specialist trades and supervisors to deliver high‑quality, compliant workmanship Follow established processes to provide consistent maintenance and operational support Contribute to an agile, mobile workforce capable of supporting high‑tempo Defence training demands Manage and maintain tools, materials and equipment for operational tasks Comply with SHEQ systems, safety regulations, fire prevention requirements and Defence security protocols About you Competency or certification in a relevant trade (e.g., carpentry, plumbing, electrical) advantageous First Aid and relevant high‑risk licences (EWP, forklift, working at heights, dogging) Understanding of safety regulations, fire prevention and environmental compliance Holds or able to obtain NV1 Defence Clearance, DEFEO101D Experience operating equipment such as skid steer, forklift, HDPE welding gear, MR truck (desirable) Minimum 1+ years’ experience in a maintenance or trade‑based role Must be eligible to hold a Defence Security Clearance.
