Reporting to the Grounds Utility Foreperson, this position will be responsible for performing welding and metal fabrication tasks across various Surrey School sites. Your strong knowledge of welding techniques, materials, tools, and safety procedures, combined with your expertise in blueprint reading, metalworking methods, and fabrication standards, will make you a valuable member of the team. Leadership skills and hands-on experience are essential as you may assist in guiding or training other employees involved in maintenance work. Success in this role requires excellent attention to detail, strong organizational skills, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while responding to urgent repairs or time-sensitive projects.
The Surrey School District prides itself on providing our facilities with staff with an excellent work-life balance. This day-only position offers a shift of 7am-3pm, Monday to Friday. The successful applicant will be based out of the beautiful District Facilities Centre located in the heart of Surrey.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Red Seal Welder Certification or recognized provincial Trades Qualification
  • Valid CWB Welding Certifications (SMAW/MCAW/GMAW – all positions)
  • W47.1 (steel) and W47.2 (aluminum) CWB endorsements (or ability to obtain)
  • Minimum 3 years of field welding and fabrication experience
  • Proficient in structural and vehicle welding, including both steel and aluminum
  • Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s License
  • Ability to interpret and work from drawings and construction standards
  • Strong knowledge of shop and field safety practices
