THINKING ABOUT DOING A DEGREE BUT DON’T WANT THE STUDENT DEBT? WHY NOT JOIN US FOR A DEGREE-LEVEL APPRENTICESHIP AND KICKSTART YOUR CAREER WITH TRADING STANDARDS?

We are looking for two enthusiastic and motivated individuals to take on a vital role in enforcing vape and tobacco regulations. This is more than just a job - it’s your chance to make a lasting impact in the West Yorkshire community, ensuring fairness, compliance, and public safety. If you’re ready to take on a rewarding challenge with clear career progression and want to be proud of the difference you make, this is the opportunity you’ve been waiting for. Join us and be part of something meaningful!
The successful candidates will undertake the two-year Level 6 Trading Standards Professional Apprentice programme, whilst working as part of Trading Standards, in particular supporting the activities relating to the rules regulating vapes and tobacco, including the supply of illegal products and tackling age restricted sales to children. This includes carrying out investigations and enforcement visits, PACE interviews, statement taking, prosecution files, giving evidence in court and safeguarding vulnerable residents.
The role is challenging yet incredibly rewarding, offering a variety of tasks that keep every day interesting.
For this post, you will have excellent communication and organisational skills, be enthusiastic and committed to learning and have ability to deal confidently with a range of stakeholders. You will also be able to work under minimum supervision and as part of a team, hold a full driving licence and have access to a vehicle.

What we offer:

  • Generous local government salary pension scheme
  • Wide range of learning and development opportunities
  • Hybrid working and a healthy work life balance
  • IT equipment and home-working equipment supplied
  • 29 days annual leave + bank holidays
  • Access to discounts and benefits via Wakefield Council including discounted gym membership, travel and shopping
