Leicestershire County Council has 4 apprenticeship posts in our Trading Standards team as a Level 1 Trading Standards Officer. The role involves undertaking the Level 6 Trading Standards Professional Apprenticeship. During this time, you will gain hands-on experience to become an accomplished officer enforcing legislation while working towards your professional qualification. We are keen to hear from individuals who are calm under pressure, highly motivated, flexible and personable. About the Role You will cover all areas of Trading Standards and work across the teams in year one as part of your 3-year apprenticeship, but will choose two legislative areas to specialise in during year two from the following options (Product Safety, Food Standards, Feed Hygiene, Weights & Measures or Animal Health & Welfare) . However, for at least one of the roles, there is a requirement to specialise in tobacco and vape enforcement (alongside one of the others listed above). Trading Standards' remit is to respond to complaints, support businesses in achieving compliance through inspections and advice, and tackle serious or repeat non-compliance through enforcement action. These roles will initially support current officers but lead to undertaking your own caseload. No previous Trading Standards experience is required, but you must be committed to undertaking the Level 6 Trading Standards Professional Apprenticeship and building a career within this vital service whilst working as part of a supportive and productive Service. Experience in writing projects, research or other reports. Good written and oral communication skills. An understanding of Trading Standards work. Experience of providing advice in an enforcement role is desirable A full driving licence and be willing and able to drive council vehicles as part of your role. The interview will consist of an assessment and questions. You will be asked to view a typical complaint that might be received by Trading Standards and then feed back to the panel your considerations. You will also be asked to give a short presentation on an area of your choice. Further details of this will be sent to you if you are shortlisted.
