RK&K is seeking a motivated and creative Traffic Project Engineer with six (6) to ten (10) years of experience to join our highly successful traffic group in our Fairfax, Virginia office. As a Traffic Project Engineer with RK&K you will work alongside and collaborate closely with one of the largest, most talented groups of traffic engineers and transportation professionals in the industry. You will play a crucial role within our team, developing traffic engineering designs to improve transportation systems throughout the region. Our projects focus on improving operations and safety for motorized and non-motorized modes of travel, providing healthy and livable communities, and implementing technology-based transportation improvements. Essential Function * Perform a variety of tasks, including transportation planning studies, traffic operations and safety analysis, traffic engineering design plans and preliminary engineering design   * Support projects for all modes of travel including highway, bus, rail, bicycle and pedestrian in urban, suburban and rural environments   * Complete studies and develop high quality traffic reports with limited direction and be able to clearly, professionally present that information to our clients on site and virtually   * Prepare documentation and design plans for traffic control devices, including traffic signals, signing and pavement markings, temporary traffic control, lighting, and Intelligent Traffic Systems (ITS)   * Utilize traffic software and modeling tools to simulate and analyze traffic patterns, capacity, and performance of networks * Stay up to date with the latest advancements in traffic engineering practices, technology and industry trends * Prepare technical reports and presentations and present to clients and public stakeholders  Required Skills and Experience  * Minimum six (6) years of progressive experience in traffic engineering * Exceptional writing, verbal communication and presentation skills, including public speaking   * Experience with Highway Safety Manual, Highway Capacity Manual and AASHTO guidelines    * Travel Forecasting experience   * Proficient experience with HCS, SIDRA, Synchro/SimTraffic and VISSIM    * Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering or related    * Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.)    Preferred Skills and Experience  * Master’s Degree in Civil Engineering  * Certified Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) Other Duties Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.
