JOB DESCRIPTION

The successful Traffic Commissioner (TC) Engagement Manager will lead and deliver effective external engagement services, to assist the Traffic Commissioner for Wales to engage with the bus and freight industries, local authorities and other key transport stakeholders with a view to improving road safety, protecting fair competition and promoting punctual and reliable bus services in Wales.
This will involve engaging at a high level on behalf of the Traffic Commissioner for Wales with Welsh Government Ministerial aides, senior Welsh Government officials, and senior managers from the Department for Transport (DfT) and its Agencies. As well as with industry stakeholders and national, local and trade media outlets.
A key requirement of the role will be the development and arrangement of seminars and digital and social media content, to provide guidance and advice to industry in order to support the safe and legal operation of commercial vehicles as well as supporting growth.
In addition to this, the post holder will provide media handling capability, as well as proactively creating news stories and content using digital and social media.

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO:

  • Lead, manage and contribute to the delivery of external engagement campaigns and plans, working collaboratively with the Traffic Commissioner for Wales, subject matter experts and colleagues in the OTC, DVSA and Welsh Government communication teams, ensuring an integrated approach. Make decisions about the most appropriate channels, including using digital and other technologies to full potential, such as blogs, email alerts, infographics, photography, filming, social media.
  • Respond quickly to media requests. Provide media handling advice to the TC, provide briefing and lines to take and oversee filming opportunities/interviews.
  • Maintain an awareness of the news agenda and emerging news events.
  • Provide support to the Welsh Hearing Centre team in the delivery of public inquiry services within Wales. This may include preparing case work or clerking hearings.
  • Work in collaboration with other managers across all functions for the good of the OTC and DVSA and to create a high performing and well-respected Agency.
