JOB DESCRIPTION

AECOM is seeking a motivated Traffic Engineer with at least two years of professional experience to join our Transportation team in a hybrid role based in Los Angeles or Orange, CA . This is an excellent opportunity for a junior or mid-level traffic engineer ready to contribute to meaningful infrastructure projects and develop their technical and professional expertise.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or a related field.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in traffic engineering, transportation planning, or roadway design or equivalent of education and experience.
  • EIT certification or ability to obtain it within 6 months.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience working with Caltrans and/or LADOT standards and procedures.
  • Exposure to traffic signal design, signing and striping plans , and temporary traffic control .
  • Familiarity with AutoCAD, MicroStation, and traffic simulation software (e.g., Synchro, HCS).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to contribute to multiple projects simultaneously.
  • A desire to learn from experienced engineers and grow into a lead or management role.
Responsibilities

As a key team member, your responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting in the preparation of traffic impact studies , traffic signal designs , signing and striping plans , and road safety audits under the supervision of senior engineers.
  • Performing data collection and field investigations to support project development and analysis.
  • Contributing to traffic analysis and modeling using tools such as Synchro, VISSIM, and SIDRA.
  • Collaborating with project teams, including planners, civil designers, and project managers, to deliver technical solutions.
  • Supporting the preparation of technical reports, drawings, and presentations for clients and stakeholders.
  • Ensuring project work complies with local, state (e.g., Caltrans, LADOT), and federal traffic engineering standards .
  • Participating in internal reviews, quality checks, and continuous improvement processes.
  • Developing your understanding of regulatory processes, safety principles, and construction phase services .
