Description

H2M architects + engineers, a multidiscipline architectural, engineering, environmental consulting firm, seeks a full or part-time Project Traffic Engineer [Hybrid] for our Melville, NY office. This position will be responsible for the preparation and management of traffic, parking, and master planning studies. This includes, but is not limited to, traffic design and related infrastructure projects. Successful candidate will have the opportunity to collaborate on and design and manage exciting traffic/transportation projects.

EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering is required. A New York State Professional Engineering License is required.
  • Must have 6 years traffic engineering experience – this includes but not limited to road, intersection, and overall traffic infrastructure design.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD
  • Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), Synchro, MUTCD, ITE Traffic Engineering Handbook, ITE Parking Generation, ITE Trip Generation, and AASHTO.
  • Strong knowledge of NYSDOT Highway Design Manual.
  • Must be able to read and comprehend roadway plans and contracts.
  • Ability to work independently and prepare expert reports summarizing findings, using accepted engineering principles, prepare for EBT’s, and hearing/trial testimony.
  • Traffic signal design experience highly desirable.
  • Nassau-Suffolk County experience a plus.
  • Must be highly motivated
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    Note: Candidates should be available to attend in person meetings/hearings out of the office. Must have reliable transportation for related client meetings and site visits. (valid driver’s license in good standing required).
    As part of your role, you may be required to work in environments where the use of a respirator is necessary. In such cases, H2M will provide appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and ensure compliance with all applicable safety and health regulations. Therefore, you will be required to participate in any necessary respirator fit testing, training, and medical evaluations in accordance with OSHA standards and company policy.
    Travel is required for this position, and you may be required to use your own vehicle for work related travel including travel to and from job sites if an H2M vehicle is not available. Due to the nature of the position, it is expected that you are able to work a flexible schedule which may include nights, weekends and holidays, as needed.
    The salary range for this role is $80,000 - $110,000 annually.

Responsibilities
  • Preparation of traffic impact and parking studies, including the review of site plans for traffic safety issues and parking facilities for local zoning conformance.
  • Coordinate and perform the planning, analysis, design and permitting tasks for traffic/transportation engineering, land development, master planning projects.
  • Analyze signals, signing and pavement markings.
  • Delivery of on-time tasks/projects within specified guidelines and schedules; completing progress reports as necessary.
  • Draft and prepare traffic impact reports.
  • Manage internal and external relationships, including interaction and problem solving with clients, contractors, and other project team members.
  • Note: Must be able to travel to field/client visits with the NY metro area.
