Overview ABOUT THE POSITION Traffic Engineering Project Manager | Hybrid | Hauppauge, NY VHB’s growing Hauppauge, NY team is looking for a Traffic Engineering Project Manager to join our Transportation team. The right candidate would be joining a tight-knit team of traffic engineers and transportation planners who value technical excellence, career development, pride in our work, a collaborative team environment, and a passion for finding the right solutions that enhance mobility and safety. 2024 ACEC, Engineering Excellence Awards, National Recognition 2024 Institute of Transportation Engineers, National Achievement Award 2025 LIBN, Real Estate Architecture & Engineering Awards for Top Firm, Rising Star, Top Engineer, Top Private & Smart Growth Projects 2024 ACEC Inaugural (DEI) Commitment Award Responsibilities: Manage traffic engineering, transportation planning, and/or safety projects and contracts Attend and lead meetings with agencies, clients, consultant partners, and stakeholders Develop new project opportunities, manage client relationships, and prepare and manage proposal submissions Complete traffic safety and operational improvement studies for localized intersections and corridors Lead development of traffic impact analyses (TIAs) and/or TIA reviews on behalf of municipalities Provide analyses of traffic safety issues and crash reduction measures Conduct field investigations to determine crash contributing factors and identification of appropriate countermeasures Oversee quality and contribute to complex technical decisions on a range of multimodal transportation engineering assignments Address community traffic engineering and safety issues Manage projects involving the design of traffic control devices (signs, markings, signals) Develop mobility solutions which consider all users, including motorists, bicyclists, public transit users and pedestrians of all ages and abilities Familiarity with Long Island, NY region municipalities and agencies traffic operations and safety policies and practices Work collaboratively with team, as well as provide leadership, mentoring, and direction to staff Skills and Abilities: Excellent communication (written and oral) and interpersonal skills Self-motivated with strong attention to detail Strong writing skills for proposals, technical reports and memoranda Ability to present at public meetings as part of project outreach The ability to manage multiple projects and work independently An understanding of effectively overseeing multi-disciplinary projects and teams Experience managing projects and marketing transportation services Motivated to lead and mentor junior team members Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering or related field of study required Master’s degree a plus and may substitute for 1 year of experience 8-11 years of professional experience in traffic/transportation engineering required Experience with Long Island, NY region transportation projects preferred Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure required Understanding of Vissim and Synchro preferred Experience with SEQRA preferred Our best estimate of the salary range for this position located in Hauppauge, NY is $120,000-170,000.
