SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

  • Proven experience in a traffic planning role, preferably in general haulage or logistics.
  • Strong knowledge of UK road transport legislation and geography.
  • Experience with Transport Management Systems (TMS) and route planning software.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing demands.
  • Good problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Strong IT skills (Microsoft Excel, Outlook, etc.).

Responsibilities

JOB ROLE:

Working as part of our Redruth-based team, to efficiently plan and coordinate the day-to-day operations of our general haulage fleet, ensuring the timely, cost-effective, and compliant delivery and collection of goods. The role involves liaising with drivers, customers, and other stakeholders to optimise routes and maintain high service standards.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Plan daily and weekly transport schedules for general haulage vehicles (rigid and articulated).
  • Allocate jobs to drivers based on availability, driver hours (WTD and EU drivers’ hours regulations), and vehicle suitability.
  • Communicate clearly with drivers regarding load instructions, routes, delivery schedules, and any changes.
  • Monitor the progress of deliveries using transport management systems (TMS) and GPS tracking.
  • Deal with any delays, breakdowns, or issues quickly and efficiently to minimise service disruption.
  • Liaise with customers regarding delivery schedules, special instructions, and problem resolution.
  • Ensure all jobs are scheduled in a cost-effective and legally compliant manner.
  • Maintain accurate records of work, vehicle movements, and driver hours.
  • Assist with vehicle and driver compliance, including maintenance scheduling and tachograph downloads.
  • Work closely with the warehouse/yard and customer service teams to ensure smooth operations.
