Traffic and Transport Engineer Reference number: 11186 Closing date: 11:00pm, Tuesday 30 June 2026 * Full-time permanent position. * Salary commencing at $85,114.73 per annum, plus 12% superannuation, commensurate with skills and experience. * Band 5. * Graduate Engineers will be employed at Band 5 and after two years may be entitled to movement to Band 6 provided, they have undertaken training and completed tasks that meet the accountability and skill level required by Band 6 as set out in the enterprise agreement. The Opportunity  Moonee Valley City Council is seeking a motivated and community-focused Traffic and Transport Engineer to join our Traffic and Transport Unit. This role provides an exciting opportunity to contribute to the planning, development and management of the municipality's transport network, helping to create safe, sustainable and connected communities. Working within the Engineering Services & Capital Works Delivery Department, you will investigate and respond to traffic engineering, transport planning, parking and road safety matters, while supporting the delivery of key transport initiatives identified in Council strategies and plans. You will collaborate with a broad range of internal and external stakeholders, provide expert technical advice, assess development proposals, and contribute to transport capital works projects that improve outcomes for our community. Key Responsibilities * Investigate and respond to traffic engineering, transport planning, parking and road safety requests and enquiries. * Assess development applications and provide technical advice regarding traffic, transport and parking impacts. * Assist in the delivery of Council's Transport Capital Works Program and Local Area Traffic Management initiatives. * Undertake and analyse traffic, parking and transport surveys and develop recommendations for improvements. * Prepare reports, correspondence and recommendations for Council, management and stakeholders. * Support the implementation of Council's Integrated Transport Strategy, Walking and Cycling Strategy, Municipal Parking Strategy and other transport-related plans. * Liaise with community members, government agencies, public transport operators, consultants and contractors on transport-related matters. * Contribute to the development of transport, parking, road safety and traffic engineering policies and strategies. Skills & Experience The ideal candidate will hold tertiary qualifications in Civil Engineering, Transport Planning, Town/Urban Planning or a related discipline that confers eligibility for membership with Engineers Australia, together with a current Victorian Driver's Licence. You will have knowledge of traffic and transport engineering principles, road safety, parking management and sustainable transport planning, along with experience using AutoCAD, GIS and Microsoft Office applications. Strong analytical, organisational and problem-solving skills are essential, as is the ability to prepare high-quality reports and communicate complex technical information clearly to a range of audiences. You will be able to build productive relationships with stakeholders, effectively manage competing priorities, and demonstrate a commitment to delivering responsive customer service and positive community outcomes.
