Description The Trail Crew Assistant Supervisor works to provide a safe experience for guests by effectively overseeing the Trail Crew, managing terrain using the accumulation and distribution of natural snowfall. The Assistant Supervisor is focused on safety, training, and effective communication to maintain a positive work environment. The Trail Crew Assistant Supervisor works under the direction of the Trail Crew Supervisor and the Mountain Operations Manager, and works closely with all Mountain Operations departments. The Trail Crew Assistant Supervisor coordinates resources to prepare and help maintain slopes and premises around Banff Sunshine. Essential Functions The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee the employees within the Trail Crew department, when the Supervisor is absent, or at the direction of the Supervisor. Attention to detail in critical aspects of safety including fencing and clearing snow from premises. Communicating effectively via radio. Being accountable for creation, review and adherence to safe work procedures and hazard assessments for all tasks within the scope of work is essential for the role as is setting a good example for safe work. Actively participating, within scope of abilities, in avalanche rescue response and backing emergency response. Administrative and Reporting Responsibilities Timely completion of documentation e.g. daily safety meetings, employee training. Maintaining effective schedules and properly assigning department tasks to meet business needs. Assisting with conducting performance reviews, hiring, and performance management. Communicating and adhering to company initiatives and policies and promoting safe skiing. Timely and accurate reporting of all incidents and deficiencies to appropriate personnel. Liaise with the Mountain Operations Manager as and when required. Other duties may be requested and assigned from time to time. Experience/Requirements Minimum 3 years of skiing or related skills in mountainous environment. Standard First Aid. Proven ability to lead a team, perform all duties and department tasks, and be self-motivated. Outgoing, positive, and friendly attitude. Prepared to work flexible schedules e.g., weekends, holidays, nights, extended hours. Calm under pressure and patient, with good time management skills. Able to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbally. Work in a confidential capacity. Maintain professional conduct when knowingly acting as a company representative on or off duty. Effectively provide training, support, and assistance to coworkers, and participate in training. Must be neat, alert, punctual and dependable, acting as a leader and mentor. Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office suite of products (Excel, Outlook) and online systems is preferred. Additional Considerations Employees must always be of sound mind and report to work fit for duty. The ability to exercise good judgement is essential and a key requirement of the position. This position requires the ability to ski for long periods of time (spending the day in ski boots is normal), constant trunk rotation, frequent lifting, pushing/pulling of equipment and tools (up to 45 kg). Requires working at heights, occasionally climbing ladders, ascending inclined slopes up to 60% (30°) There will be exposure to extreme environments (temperature and wind) and remote work. This role may operate machinery and works around moving equipment. Required uniform pieces (jacket, pants) are provided. Certain equipment must be provided by the employee in advance, and during employment: Alpine or Telemark downhill skis with releasable bindings Ski poles, ski boots, ski helmet (ASTM F2040; CEN 1077; Snell RS-98; Z263.1 certified) Digital Avalanche Transceiver (less than 5 years old) Avalanche Rescue Shovel Avalanche Rescue Collapsible Probe Insulated winter boots with rubber sole Headlamp Ski equipment used for work must be in good operating condition, meet Sunshine Village equipment requirements, and may be tested throughout the season. Progressive skills listed as functions for this role may not be undertaken until training is complete, skills are demonstrated, and document requirements are fulfilled.
