POSITION SUMMARY:

Indian River Transport is seeking an experienced Shop Manager to lead daily maintenance operations at our Bensalem, PA terminal. In this role, you will oversee the maintenance shop team, ensure efficient repair and preventive maintenance workflows, and uphold DOT and company safety standards. You’ll work closely with the Director of Maintenance to optimize uptime, control costs, and drive continuous improvement.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience: 5+ years of hands-on diesel maintenance experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Technical Knowledge: Proficient in diesel engine, trailer, and brake system diagnostics; familiarity with hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Systems Proficiency: Experience with fleet maintenance software (e.g., TMW, RTA, or similar) and Microsoft Office.
  • Leadership Skills: Strong organizational and interpersonal abilities; proven track record of developing technicians and improving shop performance.
  • Compliance Savvy: In-depth understanding of DOT/FMCSA inspection requirements, HOS rules, and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Certifications: ASE certifications and/or technical degree preferred; valid driver’s license required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Experience: 5+ years in transportation/logistics operations, including 2+ years in a supervisory or management role at a terminal-level.
· Industry Knowledge: Familiarity with bulk liquid tank operations is a plus.
· Technical Skills: Proficient with Transportation Management Systems (TMS), yard management software, and Microsoft Office.
· Leadership: Strong people-management skills with proven ability to develop teams and drive accountability.
· Analytical Ability: Comfort with data analysis and KPI reporting; able to translate metrics into operational improvements.
· Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; adept at stakeholder engagement.
· Compliance: In-depth knowledge of DOT/FMCSA regulations, HOS rules, and OSHA safety standards.

  • Supervise and mentor a team of diesel technicians and support staff.

  • Schedule shifts, assign work based on priority and technician skill sets, and conduct regular performance reviews.

  • Shop Operations & Workflow Management
  • Coordinate daily repair and preventive maintenance tasks to meet production targets and minimize downtime.

  • Monitor job status through the fleet maintenance system; ensure accurate and timely logging of all work orders.

  • Manage parts inventory levels, order supplies, and negotiate vendor pricing in alignment with budget guidelines.

  • Oversee all maintenance work to ensure compliance with DOT/FMCSA regulations, OSHA standards, and company policies.

  • Conduct regular shop inspections and audit completed repairs for quality and safety.

  • Investigate equipment failures, perform root-cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.

  • Budgeting & Cost Management
  • Track labor hours, parts usage, and outside service costs; report variances against budget to the Director of Maintenance.

  • Recommend process improvements and cost-saving initiatives without sacrificing quality or safety.

  • Support warranty and parts‐return processes to maximize recoveries.

  • Collaboration & Reporting
  • Liaise with Operations, Safety, and Dispatch teams to prioritize work and communicate repair timelines.

  • Prepare weekly and monthly maintenance reports, highlighting key metrics such as uptime, mean time to repair (MTTR), and cost per mile.

  • Escalate critical issues or safety concerns promptly to the Director of Maintenance.
