Description POSITION SUMMARY Responsible for diagnosing, adjusting and repairing conventional tractor trailers. Will be moving equipment around terminal grounds. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS · Ensures that all Company trailers are in a safe and operable condition · Repairs Company trailers (and other Company equipment) in a timely fashion to ensure on-time delivery of customer freight · Promotes shop safety and always follows Company safety policies and procedures · Performs preventive maintenance on Company trailer (fluid changes, cleaning, lubrication, tire changes and other routine maintenance work) · Diagnoses faults or malfunctions to determine required repairs using engine diagnostic equipment such as computerized testing equipment and calibration devices · Examines parts for damage or excessive wear using micrometers and gauges · Replaces damaged or worn parts · Reads and understands operating manuals, blueprints, and technical drawings · Tests mechanical products and equipment on the truck after repair or assembly to ensure proper performance and compliance with manufacturer’s specifications and FMCSR & D.O.T. · Capable of working with wheel seals, bearing replacement, minor welding, brakes, minor accident damage and suspension repairs · Repairs brake systems · Repairs HVAC systems · Repairs minor electrical problems · Cleans parts by spraying them with grease solvent or immersing them in tanks of solvent · Completes the required paperwork and/or logs in a timely manner (work orders and invoices) · Cleans and maintains the shop · Assists drivers with breakdown questions/concerns in a professional and courteous manner · Treats all drivers with dignity and respect · Performs other duties as assigned or directed by Supervisor POSITION QUALIFICATIONS Education High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED) Experience 1 or more year’s trailer tech or related experience is preferred Must have demonstrated knowledge of trailer repair (electrical, brakes, welding, etc.) Certifications A/C Certification, air brake certification, and diesel certification all desired but not required OTHER SKILLS & ABILITIES · Must have own tools · CDL (Commercial Driver’s License Class A) strongly desired · Must be able to read, speak, and understand the English language · Ability to pay close attention to detail and willing to double check all work prior to signing off on it · Excellent time management skills *J&R Schugel is an equal opportunity employer.
