WHAT YOU’LL NEED

We are looking for a highly organised person who has excellent attention to detail and accuracy. You will be self-motivated, use your own initiative and successfully work under moderate supervision, as well as communicating confidently with other team members and colleagues throughout the company.

Experience in the following would be beneficial but full training will be given:

  • use of Microsoft Excel, Access and SQL query tools
  • using ESRI ArcGIS software

Responsibilities

As a Wessex Water Trainee Asset Information Technician, your role will be varied as you undertake the creation, maintenance, support, and documentation of wastewater and water supply assets on the corporate GIS database, using ESRI Arc GIS.
This will include editing records in the system, which means spending significant periods of time focusing on the screen whilst maintaining attention to detail and a high level of accuracy. Whilst performing an edit update, you will need to digitise and enter tabular information, as well as undertake topological and visual checks for completeness. Records sources will include as laid drawings, asset surveys and field-based sketches on maps.
Daily tasks will include editing our live GIS networks using data ranging from field data through to Engineering drawings. Your ability to concentrate for prolonged periods, whilst maintaining attention to detail and a high level of accuracy is essential.
You will liaise with other staff, as required, to ensure data captured is of required accuracy and quality. On occasion, you may also have to provide hard copy maps and reports to the business.
This is an office-based role in our Operations Centre, Bath or our Trowbridge Office at Kennet Way. During your 6-month probation you will be expected to be office based full time with your training being a mixture of face to face at one of our offices or online via Teams. However, once you are able to work independently there are flexible working options are available up to a maximum of 2 days per week at home.
