ABOUT YOU

We are seeking motivated and committed individuals who can support the work of NSW Health who:

  • have the right to work in Australia for the duration of the traineeship. You must be an Australian Citizen or permanent resident or a New Zealand citizen with a current New Zealand Passport, or a citizen of another country with an appropriate visa that allows you to work in Australia.

In addition, due to the competitive nature of these traineeships, relevant work experience in a health- or data-related field is highly desirable.

HOW TO APPLY

At The Ministry of Health, we want you to make the most of the opportunities you’ll get to grow your skills and your career, surrounded by authentic, smart people and leaders.

To be considered for an interview, your application must include the following attachments:

  • a response to the three targeted questions (no more than 2 pages in total)
  • an up-to-date resume/CV (no more than 5 pages)
  • a full academic transcript for your qualification(s) which includes details of units undertaken and grades obtained
  • evidence of your right to work in Australia for the duration of the traineeship (e.g. Australian or New Zealand passport or Australian birth certificate, citizenship certificate, or permanent residency visa). You must provide this even if you were born in Australia and/or you are a current NSW Health employee.

If your application does not include all these attachments, you will not be considered for interview. To ensure that we can accurately assess your communication skills, please do not use AI-generated content in your application. We are looking for authentic responses that reflect your own abilities and experiences.

Targeted Questions (response to be no more than 2 pages in total)

  • Describe your experience of using statistical software packages to manipulate and analyse data sets, including any experience you have of working with health data.
  • Provide an example of a project that you have been involved in where you were required to perform a significant amount of data analysis. This could be a project with a large data set, or one where the analysis was complex. Include the project background, your role in the project, how you went about refining the research questions and determining the most appropriate statistical methods. Outline the conclusions from the data analysis in layperson’s terms.
  • Provide an example of a data-driven recommendation you have made, that you anticipated would be met with resistance from stakeholders. How did you approach communicating your findings, and what was the outcome?
