The Creative Learning Team at The Place are passionate about dance and learning. We are responsible for creating inspirational projects in schools, communities and in our venue. Our work focuses on partnerships, the sharing of knowledge and expertise, aspiration-raising, and exploring ways in which dance can enrich learning and help change lives.

JOB OVERVIEW

We are looking for artists of any dance genre who are interested in learning more about working with young children in schools to join the programme as Trainee Dance Teachers for our Partner Schools Project. We are especially interested in hearing from individuals that will diversify our current teaching team and represent the children we are working with in our Camden Primary schools.
As a Trainee Dance Teacher, you will be able to participate in our sessions, shadow our experienced dance teachers, learn how to support schoolteachers and develop your own pedagogy.
Throughout the Partner Schools Sessions you will be supporting the delivery of dance workshops in Primary Schools across Camden, encouraging engagement with dance and creativity, leading to the students performing at The Place Theatre.
You will be supported by both the Lead Artist (who takes responsibility for planning and leading the sessions) and the Deputy Artist (who supports the Lead Artist).
This position is subject to satisfactory Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

PERSON SPECIFICATIONESSENTIAL CRITERIAKNOWLEDGE

  • Appreciation of safe, with a practice in dance, including injury prevention, appropriate warm-up and cool-down routines, and fostering a safe and supportive learning environment, with a willingness to learn more.

SKILLS

  • Strong communication skills to a broad range of people of different ages.
  • Ability to collaborate and work well as part of a team.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Some practical experience of creative dance.
Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Please note that you will be accompanied and supported by the Deputy Artist in all elements of this role. This role is subject to an Enhanced DBS Check.ACTIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assist in the delivery of practical creative movement sessions in a Camden based primary school.
  • Follow the instructions given by the Lead Artist.
  • Actively take part in the workshop and model movements as required.
  • Provide support for individual children who may require it.

OTHER DUTIES

  • Be a positive role model by dressing and behaving appropriately (e.g., wearing correct dance wear, not using explicit language and not performing any dangerous or inappropriate movements).
  • Attend any training opportunities organised by The Place as required.
  • Attend the Partner Schools Dance Festival to support your groups on the following dates on 25-26 Mar 2025 and 08-09 Jul 2025.
  • Attend the cross departmental Continuing Professional Development (CPD) day on Sat 14 Sep 2024.
  • Adhere to health and safety and statutory requirements in line with The Place’s policies, especially the Safeguarding Policy and the Health and Safety Policy.
