OVERVIEW

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Trainee Estimator to join our commercial team. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone early in their construction career who wants to learn and grow within a supportive and ambitious environment.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Trainee Estimator supports the estimating team in preparing accurate cost estimates for construction projects. This entry-level role is designed to provide hands-on experience in cost analysis, bid preparation, and supplier coordination while learning how to support the successful delivery and securing of new projects. The Trainee Estimator will work closely with senior estimators, project teams, and clients while developing their technical and commercial knowledge.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Working towards or recently completed a Degree or NVQ in Quantity Surveying, Construction Management, or a related field. Good attention to detail, strong numeracy, communication skills, and willingness to learn estimation software and industry practices.

Responsibilities
  • Estimating Support: Assist in the preparation of cost estimates for labour, materials, and equipment under the guidance of senior estimators.
  • Data Gathering: Help collect and organise data from drawings, specifications, and supplier quotes.
  • Bid Assistance: Support the team in compiling bid submissions, ensuring deadlines are met and documents are accurate.
  • Collaboration: Work with project managers, designers, and engineers to understand project requirements and assist with design-to-budget exercises.
  • Supplier Interaction: Help obtain and compare quotes from suppliers and manufacturers and assist in tracking negotiated rates.
  • Learning and Development: Take part in training sessions, post-project reviews, and site visits to gain a full understanding of the estimating process.
  • Documentation: Maintain organized records of estimates, correspondence, and project notes.
  • Client Interaction: Attend client prestart meetings alongside estimators, taking notes and supporting in follow-up actions.
  • Value Engineering: Observe and assist in value engineering exercises to meet budget constraints without compromising on quality or compliance.
  • Project Support: Contribute to project tracking, assisting with budgets, contracts, and supplier coordination where needed.
