Description

TRAINEE FINANCE AND DEBT SPECIALIST

£25,000 - £27,000
37 hours per week
Darlington or Redcar
Are you ready to build a career that truly changes lives?
Do you want to help people take control of their finances, escape the stress of debt, and move forward with hope and confidence?
If so, Citizens Advice Darlington, Redcar and Cleveland is offering a life-changing opportunity - for you and for those you’ll support.
We’re recruiting a Trainee Finance and Debt Specialist to join our passionate Money Advice Team, based in either Darlington or Redcar. This role is perfect for someone who is ready to learn, grow, and make a lasting difference in their community.
You don’t need to be an expert - we’ll give you all the training and support you need. What matters most is your empathy, your desire to help others, and your motivation to develop into a trusted, skilled advisor.
From day one, you’ll be working alongside experienced colleagues, helping clients facing some of the most difficult moments in their lives. You’ll see firsthand how advice and advocacy can relieve stress, restore confidence, and transform someone’s outlook on the future.

As you progress through your training, you’ll learn to:

  • Guide clients through their financial options
  • Provide budgeting and income-maximisation advice
  • Support people in crisis with understanding and care
  • Help negotiate with creditors, removing pressure and fear from clients
  • Work towards becoming a fully accredited Debt Advisor

This is also a regulated role, and you’ll be expected to follow clear procedures in line with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) Code of Conduct. This ensures that every piece of advice you give is not only high quality and ethical, but also fully compliant and process-driven - building trust and consistency for those who rely on your support.
This is more than a job. It’s a chance to grow your skills while making a genuine impact on individuals and families across our communities.

What we’re looking for:

  • A genuine desire to make a positive difference
  • Strong empathy and communication skills
  • Good numeracy, writing, and attention to detail
  • The motivation to learn and build your expertise over time
  • Good time management and organisational skills

We are committed to your development and will invest in you through a comprehensive training programme, tailored mentorship, and a clear path to accreditation.
