JOB SUMMARY
**The Minnesota Department of Transportation does not sponsor applicants for work visas or Optional Practical Training Extensions for STEM Students. Individuals must be legally authorized to work in the US at the start of employment.
The Minnesota Department of Transportation’s Graduate Land Surveyor Program is a 2-year rotation program allowing Trainees to gain professional surveying experience by completing short rotations (3 to 6 months) in multiple areas of surveying. Sample rotations include Construction, Legal Descriptions, Platting, Geodetics, or Right of Way.
This vacancy posting will be used to fill Trainee, Land Surveyor positions in MnDOT’s Graduate Land Surveyor Program. This Trainee position will be homebased in the Metro District. The selected Trainee(s) will begin employment after all educational requirements have been met. Upon successful completion of the two (2) year training program, the Trainee will be promoted to a Land Surveyor in Training and be permanently assigned to the Metro District.
To successfully complete the program, a Trainee must: 1) Complete two (2) years of professional surveying experience; 2) Obtain Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) registration; 3) Demonstrate satisfactory performance in all rotations; 4) Complete all required rotations; and 5) Complete 20 hours of recruitment outreach and/or public engagement service. When all criteria are met the Trainee will be non-competitively promoted to a Land Surveyor in Training position. Failure to meet any of these requirements may result in termination.
Additionally, all Trainees must become a registered, Professional Surveyor within 6 years of being appointed as a Trainee.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Proof of any identifying credentials (Proof of FS certification, Proof of PS licensure) 3.) If your degree is from a foreign university and you have not yet passed the Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) exam in the US, you must also supply proof that your degree meets the equivalent of a Bachelor of Science in Surveying and that once you meet the professional experience requirement you would be eligible to become a licensed surveyor in the state of Minnesota. 4.)
