Wiltshire Publications, publishers of Melksham Independent News, White Horse News, Warminster Journal and Frome Times, are expanding our busy news desk and are looking for a Junior News Reporter to join the team at our offices in Melksham.
Our reporters fill the pages of our 4 newspapers with high-quality stories, covering everything from local news to the offbeat tales that get people talking. Started in 1981, Wiltshire Publications has a long tradition of holding our communities together with valued local news, delivered in print and online. We are passionate about local news and the communities we serve.
The ideal candidate will have a keen interest in local news, can communicate well with people, and is not afraid to learn new skills. Previous journalism experience is not essential but all applicants must have a strong command of English and the ability to write fluent copy as our reporters are responsible for generating and writing news stories for our print newspapers and digital platforms.
Additionally, our reporters cover events, take photographs, and build relationships within the communities we serve so candidates must be organised, enthusiastic and a real “people person”, with a nose for news.
This role would suit a university graduate or someone with exceptional written communication skills looking for their first journalism role.
Based at our Melksham office, but time will be spent in our publication areas covering events, town council meetings and meeting people to discover the issues that affect our readers.
The hours are Monday to Friday 9am - 5pm but reporters are expected to work some evenings and weekends when required and time in lieu will be given for any extra hours worked.
A full driving licence and your own car is essential
