ORANGE HEALTH SERVICE

This position offers accredited Emergency experience, up to 24 months, for trainees of relevant colleges (ACEM, CICM, RACP, RANZCOG, RACGP). This post would particularly suit ALL ACEM trainees, PT (TS1) and AT (TS2 to TS4), looking for experiences in a busy regional referral & trauma centre. It’s also catered for applicants wishing to develop a base line practical skill set in Emergency Medicine as our ED is ACEM-accredited for EM advanced qualifications (certificates and diplomas).
The contract for this position can be one or two years and our institution will be working to provide Critical Care terms and non-ED terms as individual requires. Available terms within OHS include General Medicine, Anaesthetic, Paediatrics, ICU and psychiatry. Secondments from ED will be discussed and managed by supervisors of training among all specialities. Rotations to tertiary EDs can also be negotiated. Responsibilities and opportunities for autonomous practice will be possible commensurate with level of expertise and experience.
Orange Health Services is a 270-bed major non-metropolitan referral hospital, serving a population of 300,000. It constitutes the largest Rural Campus in the Southern Hemisphere. It is the regional trauma centre for Western NSW and has a fully FACEM staffed ED. The Intensive Care Unit is the referral unit for the Local Health District. It is a level 5 unit and is staffed accordingly. There are a comprehensive range of specialist services including almost all medical and surgical services, with the exception of spinal, burns, cardiothoracic and neurosurgical. Of note, there are services such as interventional cardiology, and endovascular suite, and excellent on-site digital radiology, including a 3T MRI and 2 LINACs for radiation oncology. Orange Health Service also has acute specialists in cardiology, renal, gastroenterology, respiratory medicine, haematology, neurology, ophthalmology and specialists in medical and radiation oncology. There are also local specialists in palliative care, nuclear medicine and dermatology.
Just three and a half hours from Sydney, Orange is one of Australia’s leading wine growing regions, with a love of fine food and coffee, and a burgeoning café culture. With good schools, and thriving farming and mining communities young professionals and families alike are drawn to this unique Australian Country Town. Perhaps unexpected is Orange’s involvement in the Arts with a vibrant musical and theatrical scene and is a fixture for touring international and Australian theatre and orchestral companies. Orange is rich in festivals highlighting local produce and featuring celebrity chefs from Sydney and Melbourne, while also having 3 “Hatted” restaurants in the area. The hospital is very much at the heart of the town, and new staff will find themselves welcomed by a friendly, cosmopolitan community.
Orange Health Service is a teaching hospital associated with the University of Sydney and Charles Sturt University. There is an excellent record of success in college professional exams and also future placement with metropolitan hospital training programs.
