Trainee Examiner/ Surveyor Job Description
As a trainee Building Structures Engineer you will assist in undertaking structural inspections and testing to produce inspection reports to a high standard ensuring that all works are undertaken safely and in accordance with Modus Rail Policies and Procedures. Projects will be primarily involving difficult access therefore operatives may be required to undertake industry standard training in a number of access disciplines such as Rope Access and Confined Space Access (as well as Commercial Diving in some cases) to fulfil their role.

Principal tasks include:

  • Assist in undertaking inspection and testing on a variety of civil infrastructure using a range of access disciplines in-line with industry approved codes of practice. Structure types include bridges, buildings, retaining walls and towers.
  • Undertake inspections to a variety of inspection standards including rail, highways and defence.
  • Assist Inspection Engineers with collation and submission of inspection reports.
  • Undertake site works in a safe manner in line with company procedures and the safe systems of work put in place for each task.
  • Undertake sufficient number of examinations to meet competency requirements.
  • Report any equipment that requires any repairs, servicing or calibration.
  • Report any accident, incident or near miss
