TRAINEE TEAM LEADER (LEVEL 3 TEAM LEADER APPRENTICESHIP)

As a Trainee Team Leader, you will play a crucial role in developing the leadership of our administrative team within general practice setting. This apprenticeship opportunity gives you the hands-on skills and experience of primary care.
Over 18-months you will learn a range of skills and gain lots of experience to support you with starting your career in the NHS. On completion of the training there will be scope for further development.

KEY SKILLS YOU WILL LEARN DURING THIS APPRENTICESHIP:

Leading & Managing People to understand different leadership styles and how these can be used within the workplace to get the most out of your team including HR procedures and legal requirements
Building Relationships & Communications to understand approaches to communicating with different stakeholders, managing conflict and managing meetings
Operational Management to learn about how strategy is developed and implemented within the Practice
Project Management to understand project lifecycles and deliver a project within the Practice
Finance for an understanding of financial governance and how budgets are calculated and assessed
Awareness & Management of Self to be self-aware and understand how bias and learning styles can affect learning and team output
Problem Solving & Decision Making to develop a technique and process for managing complex problems, finding innovative solutions and seeking help where required.
This apprenticeship will provide you with valuable exposure to the primary care environment, enabling you to develop essential skills in leadership, customer service, administration, teamwork, and confidentiality. You will have the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals while contributing to the efficient delivery of healthcare services within a general practice.

There will be lots of support for your training, however this will be your training programme. To ensure success we want you to:

  • Strive to achieve your best and understand the pass to distinction grade outcomes available for your apprenticeship
  • Take responsibility for reflecting on your own learning needs and prioritising these as part of your training schedule
  • Ensure you have an excellent attendance record to enable you to take full advantage of the training, to support the achievement of your apprenticeship
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of modules and assignments, striving for the best quality by seeking advice and support from your mentors
  • Attend and fully participate in all learning activities scheduled, even if they are in addition to the minimum
  • off-the-job training requirement
  • Seek clarification immediately where tasks or subjects are unclear, to ensure you don’ fall behind with your learning schedule
  • Participate in English and maths tests at the start of the programme
  • Achieve the Level 2 Functional Skills qualifications in maths and English if require

Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Whilst gaining skills within the Practice, you will be following the Team Leader Level 3 Standard with a nominated Training Provider (Practice Managers Association). This will involve a blend of formal study and self-directed learning.

During your apprenticeship you will learn how to:

  • Provide day to day support & leadership to the administrative team
  • Support recruitment and induction of new staff
  • Liaise with Management and Partners on workload concerns & developments
  • Manage staff rotas
  • Development & management of call / recall systems
  • Assist the administrative team with their workload including workflow, dealing with emails, eConsultations, private and insurance reports, registrations, call/recall, referrals and dealing with patients queries over the telephone

Who we’re looking for (person specification) In our selection process we want you to demonstrate:

  • A positive “can do” attitude.
  • Problem-solving skills - for example how you manage through conflicting priorities on your time
  • Attention to detail and quality of work
  • Honesty and reliability, including an understanding of what confidentiality means whilst working in a GP Practice
  • The skill to work in challenging situations
  • Understanding of, and commitment to equality of opportunity and good working relationships
  • Understanding of what makes a team work well and how a team leader can support both the team and the Practice
  • Good team worker who offers flexibility to support colleague absence e.g. annual leave
  • Basic knowledge of IT packages such as Outlook, Word, Excel and MS Teams
  • English and Maths GCSE grade C/Level 4 or equivalent qualifications like Functional Skills at Level 2 are desirable.
  • Previous level 2 or equivalent qualifications, or equivalent previous experience is also desirable.
