Nepean Hospital has an excellent urological service offering a complete clinical, non-clinical and academic training experience. The Department of Urology consists of 9 Urologists with a range of special interests including Uro-oncology, Endourology, functional Urology and reconstructive Urology making it an ideal training opportunity for a junior Trainee.
The department is at the forefront of urological research and has ongoing large clinical trials including research in prostate cancer, bladder cancer, and management of BPH. Nepean Hospital’s affiliation with The University of Sydney make facilitating research and education a natural part of the appointment and maximises the non-clinical and academic experience. Overall Nepean Urology has developed a reputation for providing a nourishing environment to maximise the chances of our Trainees being successful in the RACS Urology SET application for advanced training.

Responsibilities
  • Ward work including managing pre- and post-operative patients with other members of the team (one Fellow, one SET 5 Advanced Trainee completing fellowship examination, two Unaccredited Trainees and three JMOs).
  • Attending, work-up and managing emergency urological presentations and ward based urological consults.
  • Required to participate in the after-hours on-call rosters (1 in 4 on-call).
  • On-call expectations include ability to assess, diagnose and manage urological presentations to the Emergency department. Basic urological surgical experience is preferable.
  • Participating in teaching and supervision of interns / RMO’s and attached medical students.
  • Co-ordinating with the anaesthetists, medical consultation, organisation of post-operative care.
  • Assisting the SET Trainees and Consultants with surgical procedures including elective general urology, robotic lists (approx. 5-8 per week) and emergency cases.
  • Arranging, attending and presenting at X-ray, multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and morbidity/ mortality (M&M) meetings on a weekly basis.
  • There will be an ample opportunity to learn new skills in Urological surgery.
