Training offered at the Nepean Hospital NICU includes all aspects of Neonatal Intensive Care, including various modes of conventional ventilation as well as high-frequency ventilation and non-invasive respiratory support modes.
The successful applicant will be exposed to all aspects of Neonatology. It is the expectation that the doctor can competently assess babies, be proficient in neonatal resuscitation & procedural skills and be able to formulate a management plan and perform necessary procedures to institute that plan as required.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered or eligible for registration with the Medical Board of Australia in an appropriate registration category.
  • Applicants who are not currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia must meet English language skills registration standard (medical) and attach evidence of this to their application.
  • Demonstrated clinical practice as a registered medical practitioner in the last 2 years in a setting appropriate to the needs of the position.
  • At least three years’ postgraduate experience in public hospital service (or equivalent).
  • Minimum 12 months Level 3 neonatology experience.
  • Demonstrated experience and training in paediatric procedural and resuscitation skills including venepuncture, cannulation, bladder catheterisation and lumbar puncture.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently within a supervised complex clinical environment utilising excellent clinical skills (at the required level of competency) and judgment and expertise.
  • This position is subject to an appropriate supervision level which can be supported by the health agency. If the incumbent’s registration conditions include supervision requirements, the level of supervision must be able to be supported by the health agency for this role.
  • Valid Working with Children Check, cleared National Police Check.
  • To be employed by NSW Health you are required to provide evidence of vaccination to comply with the NSW Health Occupational Assessment, Screening & Vaccination against Specified Infectious Diseases Policy, this includes any amendments made from time to time.
Responsibilities
  • The NICU Trainee is responsible for all the NICU inpatients as well as all at-risk deliveries, and is responsible to a consultant who is off-site after-hours.
  • Trainees will have the opportunity to enrol for Diploma and/or Masters in Neonatology course (duration 1 to 2 years).
  • Trainees will have the opportunity to enrol for CCPU training (Point of care, Certificate in Clinician Performed Ultrasound Neonatal, ASUM).
