Responsibilities

This position is suitable for both, junior as well as senior trainees. It will help junior trainee to prepare for applying to advanced surgical trainee position in cardiothoracic surgery. For someone with a Fellowship in Cardiothoracic Surgery, will help him to gain further surgical experience. This position is not accredited for Advanced Training in Cardiothoracic Surgery, or any other surgical specialty.
The Cardiothoracic medical officer is responsible for the assessment of patients and ongoing day to day management under the direction of the appropriate attending medical officer who has responsibility for the patient.
The Cardiothoracic medical officer has a responsibility for ensuring appropriate communication and documentation takes place as well as a responsibility for the training and supervision of junior medical staff.

The Cardiothoracic medical officer is responsible for the organization of the clinical team, will contribute to the Departmental Administration and has the responsibility of appropriately delegating clinical and administrative duties to the junior member of the staff. They will be expected to participate in the collection of data for quality assurance meetings, participate in education sessions both within the department as well as in the hospital in general.

  • MBBS or equivalent, currently registered with the Medical Board of Australia.
  • Minimum 3 years post graduate experience. Should have previous experience in Cardiothoracic surgery, having passed primary fellowship examination of RACS.
  • Demonstrated ability working within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Excellent or outstanding communication skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching.
  • Demonstrated commitment to research.
  • Previous intensive care experience.
