About the role: We are seeking a highly motivated and dedicated Functional Skills Trainer to join our team. As a Functional Skills Trainer, you will be responsible for providing instruction and support to individuals seeking to develop and enhance their functional skills in areas such as literacy, numeracy, and information technology. Your role will involve delivering engaging training sessions (both accredited and non-accredited) assessing learners’ progress, and providing personalised guidance to help them achieve their learning goals. This position requires strong interpersonal skills, a passion for education, and the ability to adapt teaching methods to meet the diverse needs of learners.
Delivery will be a across various locations within Tees Valley, therefore a willingness to travel across the region as often as is required is essential.

Required criteria:

  • Proven experience in delivering functional skills training or similar adult education programs.
  • Training qualification such as PTTLS, Education & Training or CAVA (or willingness to work towards one within the role.)
  • Sound knowledge of functional skills requirements and standards.
  • Strong literacy, numeracy and digital skills are essential, qualifications equivalent to Level 2 in both English and Mathematics (or willing to work towards). Personal skills include creativity, being inspirational/able to create a personal impact and being highly motivated.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to motivate learners and adapt teaching strategies to meet individual needs.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods and materials to meet individual learners’ needs.
  • Comfortable using instructional technology tools and resources to enhance language instruction and engage learners in digital learning environments.
  • Qualified to deliver to a minimum Level 2 Functional Skills - Maths and English

Desirable criteria:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, PGCE, QTS or a related field.
  • Experience creating engaging and interactive lesson plans that align with the learners’ goals, incorporating a variety of teaching materials, resources, and activities.
  • Previous work with diverse student populations.
