Transcriptionist, Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Department: Histopathology Entity: Aga Khan University Hospital Location: Karachi, Pakistan Introduction: The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at The Aga Khan University is a leading academic and diagnostic center that supports patient care across Pakistan through its comprehensive laboratory services. The Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) Clinical Laboratory is accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP) and delivers high-quality diagnostic services through its main campus laboratory, a wide network of specimen collection units, and Stat laboratories. The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine comprises five major sections: Chemical Pathology, Hematology & Transfusion Medicine, Histopathology, Microbiology, and Molecular Pathology. The Histopathology section plays a critical role in disease diagnosis and patient management through accurate reporting and documentation. Responsibilities: You will be responsible to: Type dictated/handwritten lab tests reports, letters, memos, and other documents with the transcribing Machine, computer or typewriter daily to assist in timely preparation of reports/documents. Perform routine clerical work such as posting, sorting and filing or other related work as and when required and according to the instructions given to assist in smooth running of the section/department. Responsible to check daily that the lab tests reports are dispatched on due dates according to the laboratory protocol to avoid any delay in delivery of reports to the patients. Ensure that a stock of stationery required to transcribe and print reports is always available by keeping weekly checks and providing the same information to the supervisor monthly to avoid any shortage that would hinder the smooth operations of the concerned department of the clinical laboratory. Any other duty or responsibility assigned by the Charge Technologist. Requirements: You should have: Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification (preferably in Health Sciences or a related field). 2 to 3 years of experience as a Medical Transcriber. Good knowledge of medical terminology. Skills in transcribing from Dictaphone equipment. Good tying speed with accuracy. Have good verbal and written communication skills in English. Comprehensive employment reference checks will be conducted.
Responsibilities
The Transcriptionist is responsible for typing lab test reports and performing routine clerical work to assist in the smooth running of the department. They must ensure timely dispatch of reports and maintain necessary stationery supplies.
