Description

The University of Southern California (USC), founded in 1880, is located in the heart of Los Angeles and is the largest private employer in the city. As an employee of USC, you will be part of a world-class research university and a valued member of the Trojan Family, a vibrant community of faculty, staff, students, and alumni.
USC’s Dana and David Dornsife College of Letters, Arts and Sciences Office of Undergraduate Academic Advising is seeking a Transfer Student Support Coordinator to join its team. This position is dedicated to supporting the overall success of undergraduate students, with a specialized focus on the unique needs of Dornsife transfer students.
The Dornsife Transfer Student Support Coordinator is responsible for developing and implementing strategies and programs that help transfer students transition into Dornsife College, build a sense of belonging, and thrive in their academic and personal journeys. At the core of this work is providing individualized support through proactive outreach, personalized guidance, and thoughtful problem-solving. The coordinator serves as an advocate, connector, and resource for both incoming and continuing transfer students. The role also involves close collaboration with campus partners, including Dornsife undergraduate academic advisors, and the planning and execution of events and initiatives that foster community and promote student success throughout the Dornsife transfer experience.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as the initial point of contact for all incoming USC Dornsife transfer student inquiries, offering guidance on policies, procedures, and resources
  • Provide ongoing support and guidance to continuing transfer students to help them navigate academic, co-curricular, and personal challenges throughout their time at USC Dornsife
  • Support students both individually and in groups to help them successfully transition into the Dornsife transfer community
  • Collaborate with Dornsife undergraduate academic advisors and campus partners to coordinate comprehensive support and resources that ensure a smooth transition from previous institutions to USC Dornsife
  • Serve as the pre-orientation point of contact for Dornsife transfer students, providing guidance and support as they prepare for advisement meetings and course registration
  • Facilitate workshops and community-building opportunities specifically designed to engage continuing transfer students
  • Assist with transfer-specific communications, such as semester reminders, newsletters, website content, and social media
  • Act as a liaison to connect students with key campus resources to support their academic and personal development
  • Monitor and apply institutional and national trends in transfer student support to enhance programming and practices
  • Assess the needs of USC Dornsife transfer students to inform the development and improvement of programs, events, and services
  • Collect and analyze qualitative and quantitative data to evaluate the effectiveness of transfer-specific initiatives, communications, and engagement efforts
  • Use assessment findings to identify gaps, highlight successes, and recommend improvements that support student transition, connection, and success
  • Prepare regular reports and present outcomes to advising leadership and campus stakeholders to guide program planning and decision making
  • Participate in departmental meetings, committees, and campus groups to share updates, promote collaboration, and advocate for services, programs, and initiatives that enhance the transfer student experience and overall student support
  • Contribute to the development and delivery of training, workshops, and initiatives that strengthen faculty and advisor understanding of transfer student needs
  • Maintain current knowledge of university and college policies, curriculum, transfer credit processes, degree requirements, and student service resources
  • Participate in assigned administrative tasks that support the undergraduate advising office and transfer student success
  • Stay professionally engaged through involvement in associations, committees, workshops, and campus initiatives
  • Participate in appropriate off-campus transfer events prior to matriculation
  • Other related duties as assigned or requested
The university reserves the right to add or change duties at any time. This position is contingent upon continued funding.
The ideal candidate will have strong communication and organizational skills, a demonstrated commitment to student advocacy, a genuine interest in supporting transfer students, and a strong working knowledge of transfer student trends.
Hourly range: The hourly rate range for this position is $29.68 - $33. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.
