BOUNDARY ELECTRIC IS SEEKING A SKILLED AND SOLUTIONS-DRIVEN TRANSFORMER ENGINEER TO JOIN OUR TEAM!!
The Transformer Engineer serves as a key technical resource supporting the sales, design, development, testing, and maintenance of transformers. This includes distribution transformers, power transformers, and special-purpose units. The role requires deep technical expertise in transformer theory, insulation systems, electromagnetic design, thermal performance, and adherence to industry standards.
Key Responsibilities:
· Product Vetting & Quality Assurance
o Serve as a technical resource for Sales, Operations, and Engineering teams on medium and high voltage electrical systems.
o Prepare and review technical documentation, including design reports, datasheets, and test plans.
o Perform electrical calculations and develop electrical design documentation for transformers.
o Review and Interpret customer specifications and project requirements to ensure compliance and performance; prepare design review documents, technical reports, and justifications for customer approval.
o Analyze testing data and results. Troubleshoot and offer technical solutions for testing deviational data.
o Support Factory Acceptance Testing (FAT), customer inspections, and field troubleshooting.
o Contribute to cost optimization, product development, and failure analysis.
o Verify that design drawings meet customer specifications prior to manufacturing.
o Conduct on-site inspections and audits to ensure product quality and compliance.
o Analyze quality data and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
o Ensure that quality audits of engineering work are carried out in accordance with project procedures and the quality assurance plan.
o Develop and implement quality control systems and procedures to ensure compliance with industry standards and continuous improvement.
· Design & Engineering
o Design oil-filled distribution and power transformers to CSA/IEEE or customer specifications.
o Develop various transformer core and winding configurations (e.g., wound core, stacked core).
o Participate in design reviews and transformer testing (routine and special tests).
o Coordinate with other departments to ensure alignment during design evolution.
o Maintain and update project scope and design revisions throughout the process.
o Collaborate with the engineering team to analyze and optimize existing transformer designs for performance, reliability, and manufacturability.
o Review and execute electrical and layout design criteria.
o Respond to technical inquiries from customers, production, CSA, and UL.
o Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and regulations.
· Process Improvement
o Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize procurement and reduce defects.
o Lead root cause investigations and implement sustainable quality solutions.
o Develop training materials and support procurement teams on quality standards.
· Travel & On-Site Presence
o Travel up to 20% of the time, including international travel to Asia, India, and other regions for product inspections, supplier audits, and manufacturing reviews.
o Maintain effective communication with international teams and report findings to management.
o Required to be on-site at the Grand Foks location at least once per quarter to support collaborations, inspections, and strategic alignment.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
· Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems or related field).
· 8-10 years of transformer design experience in a manufacturing environment.
· Strong knowledge of single and three-phase oil-filled distribution transformers (up to 3 MVA, 34.5 kV) and power transformers (up to 15 MVA, 69kV).
· Professional Engineering (P.Eng.) preferred.
· Proficiency in transformer testing methodologies.
· Strong knowledge of electrical industry standards (CSA, IEEE, UL, NETA).
· Strong understanding of procurement, contracting, and commissioning methodologies.
· Experience with transformer protection systems.
· Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
· Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
· Experience in manufacturing or testing environments.
· Proficiency with quality management software and data analysis tools.
