Description

We’re looking for a Transformer Technician III Supervisor to lead field teams in transformer assembly, testing, and service for critical energy infrastructure projects across the U.S. This supervisory role involves overseeing all aspects of transformer installation and maintenance, including oil processing, component replacement, and field testing. You’ll play a hands-on role in complex service jobs while mentoring junior technicians and upholding RMS Energy’s high safety and quality standards.

THE EXPERIENCE WE’RE LOOKING FOR:

  • 5–10 years of experience in transformer oil work, testing, assembly, or service
  • Experience interpreting scopes, drawings, and technical documents
  • Advanced Load Tap Changer experience
  • Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office and online platforms

ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Willingness to travel up to 80% across the continental U.S.
  • High school diploma or GED
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
  • Must pass a DOT physical, background check, and drug/alcohol screening
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Available for extended and irregular hours, including weekends and holidays
  • Physically capable of lifting 50+ lbs., working outdoors in all weather, at heights (100+ ft), in confined spaces, and around high-voltage equipment
  • Requires good vision, hearing, and English proficiency for safe, effective communication in noisy environments
Responsibilities
  • Supervise transformer assembly, including radiators, bushings, conservators, and accessories
  • Lead degassing operations, pressure/vacuum testing, and oil sampling procedures
  • Manage re-gasketing and O-ring fabrication, and installation
  • Oversee teardown and prep of damaged units for transport or disposal
  • Troubleshoot and repair transformer control wiring and ensure safety and reliability
  • Conduct advanced transformer testing: Megger, TTR, SFRA, Power Factor, Core Ground, and passivation/system protection alarms
  • Perform OEM, utility, and customer-mandated electrical tests
  • Document and submit test results with a high degree of accuracy
  • Maintain safe use and condition of tools, vehicles, and testing equipment
  • Enforce strict compliance with safety protocols, especially environmental containment
  • Operate construction and industrial equipment safely within load/capacity limits
  • Follow strict safety and PPE usage protocols due to noise, electrical hazards, and elevated work areas
