TRANSFUSION MEDICINE OPPORTUNITY AT THE UNIVERSITY OF CALIFORNIA, SAN FRANCISCO

The Department of Laboratory Medicine, University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) is actively seeking a full-time faculty member; a Transfusion Medicine physician with clinical service, and teaching responsibilities. The Assistant Medical Director position is at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor level in either the HS Clinical or Clinical X or in-Residence career tracks at UCSF, depending on qualifications and experience.
A team of five Transfusion Medicine Faculty provide medical oversight and medical direction for blood transfusion services integrated across six UCSF Hospitals (Parnassus, Mission Bay, Mt. Zion, St. Mary’s Medical Center, St. Francis Memorial Health Center and Benioff Children’s Hospital Oakland). The faculty works closely with staff in Transfusion Service laboratories located at each of these sites to ensure procedures for testing and matching blood products are updated and appropriate and meet all regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include clinical oversight of in-patient and out-patient transfusion services including laboratory operations at UCSF Health and serving as a consultant to physicians for all matters related to blood product selection and transfusion, test selection and interpretation of laboratory findings. Our Transfusion Service Laboratories issue more than 70,000 blood products per year and support a wide range of organ and bone marrow transplants, critical care, and surgical services for adult, pediatric and neonatal patients.
The successful candidate will work with other Transfusion Medicine Faculty to implement the academic mission of the UCSF Laboratory Medicine service, which includes training of medical students, laboratory medicine residents, Transfusion Medicine/Cellular Therapy fellows, as well as trainees from other clinical departments. Candidates should demonstrate commitment to academic medicine, education, and collaborative clinical care and will be expected to contribute to departmental and institutional service and leadership initiatives.
Applicants must meet the requirements for medical licensure in California and have successfully completed training in an ACGME-approved residency in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology or Clinical Pathology or other specialty deemed eligible for certification in Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine by the American Board of Pathology. Candidates should either have completed an ACGME-approved Blood Banking /Transfusion Medicine fellowship or be actively enrolled in an ACGME-approved Blood Banking /Transfusion Medicine fellowship program. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment. See Table 5 The minimum base salary range for this position is $154,700-$405,900. This position includes membership in the health sciences compensation plan which provides for eligibility for additional compensation.
