Primary objective
To safeguard passengers and bus drivers on the Darwin bus network by delivering an effective customer safety and security
service.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Provide effective customer services and a safe environment for all stakeholders on the Darwin bus network in a high-
pressure environment.
2. Conduct on-road patrols to proactively deal with potential anti-social behaviours, duty taskings and requests for
assistance on the bus network.
3. Handle customer complaints and enquiries in accordance with Department policies and the Northern Territory Public
Service and Transit Safety Codes of Conduct.
4. Provide a highly visible presence whilst promoting a positive image of the Department’s services.
5. Gather evidence, prepare statements and reports, including data entry.
6. Carry out tasks and functions as directed within the operational requirements of the position.
Selection criteria
Essential
1. Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of contemporary customer service techniques and how to apply these in
a variety of relevant situations, in a cross-cultural environment.
2. Well-developed interpersonal skills with the ability to manage conflict situations and proven experience in conflict
resolution.
3. Well-developed personal organisation skills with the ability to manage priorities and meet deadlines.
4. Possess written and verbal communication skills appropriate for the responsibilities of the position, including computer
literacy adequate to perform daily duties.
5. Ability to interpret and apply legislation, including an understanding of Workplace Health and Safety principles.
6. Ability to maintain high levels of confidentiality and demonstrated integrity in dealing with colleagues and the public in
a fair and equitable manner.
7. Successfully complete an aptitude test and a psychological assessment.
8. Hold a valid Working with Children Clearance Notice (Ochre Card), complete a National Police criminal history clearance
for Law Enforcement Officers and pass a medical assessment.
9. Hold a current Senior First Aid Certificate and an NT driver’s licence (manual).
Desirable
1. Experience in the application of criminal law and the rules of evidence.

Primary objective
To lead the team of Transit Officers in delivering an effective customer safety and security service with a focus on addressing anti-
social behaviour.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Lead the operational activities of a team of Transit Officers in the field to achieve maximum coverage across the network with
available resources.
2. Undertake operational and tactical supervision to achieve high level service delivery.
3. Assist in the development and implementation of operational processes and guidelines to achieve a high level of service
delivery, including customer feedback and complaints management.
4. Drive continuous improvement, by formulating, developing and reviewing workplace practices, training and service delivery
strategies.
5. Manage and investigate reported incidents on the network, including authorising Urgent Minor Requests (outside of normal
business hours) and CCTV downloads.
6. Develop and maintain an effective support and communications network within the Division, the department and other key
stakeholders to support the Unit’s strategic and operational activities.
7. Perform the duties and functions of a Transit Officer, including on-road patrols, on a shift roster that has late nights, weekends
and public holidays, and perform other duties as directed.
Selection criteria

1. Proven leadership and supervisory skills with the ability to direct operational Officers in a challenging and dynamic
environment.
2. Ability to manage priorities, resolve problems and identify options in addressing the issues and challenges faced by Transit
Officers.
3. Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence change and negotiate outcomes.
4. Ability to interact effectively with people of diverse cultures.
5. Ability to interpret legislation relevant to a regulatory and/or law enforcement environment.
6. Sound knowledge and experience in the use of information technology and databases, including proficiency in using Microsoft
Office applications.
7. Successfully complete an aptitude test and a psychological assessment.
