DESCRIPTION:

Position Summary: The Borough Work-Based Learning Coordinator will serve as point of contact for all work-based learning inquiries related to the TCAC. This position will support the implementation of work-based learning programs, policies and strategies related to strengthening student engagement and participation in the Training Opportunities Program, Summer Youth Employment Program, and other work-based learning programs offered at the borough TCAC. The Borough Work-Based Learning Coordinator will also coordinate all student work-based learning internships between students’ school and community organizations, local colleges, universities, businesses, and City agencies. Performs related work.
Reports to: Transition and College Access Center Borough Director
Direct Reports: N/A
Key Relationships: Works closely with the Executive Director of Transition and Postsecondary Initiatives, Senior Members of the Instructional Team, members of the Transition team and Transition Specialists, District 75, District 79, as well as other Central New York City Public Schools (NYCPS) offices.

Responsibilities
  • Assists in the planning, implementation, and marketing of TCAC Work-Based Learning Programs.
  • Plans and assists in the development of the Work-Based Learning Handbook.
  • Conducts orientation for students and school-based staff.
  • Conducts professional development sessions with the TCAC Community Engagement Coordinator on trends in the work force and training needs identified by the Work-Based Learning site.
  • Assists in training Summer Youth Employment Program site supervisors on policies and procedures.
  • Monitors Training Opportunity Program work sites to ensure that quality training is taking place.
  • Coordinates communication of Work-Based Learning “success stories” with TCAC leadership.
  • Works with School Safety Officers to ensure that all Work-Based Learning sites are safe and in compliance with NYCPS policies.
  • Ensures that all work positions are documented with a site agreement and that necessary signatures have been acquired.
  • Provides student supervisors with current labor market information.
  • Ensures that all documentation reflective of Work-Based Learning assignment has been completed, including student applications, student timesheets, and work-based learning inquiry emails.
  • Coordinates transportation of students to work sites.
  • Works towards meeting TCAC borough work-based learning goals.
  • Models appropriate employability skills for dress, language, and work habits.
  • Continuously helps students become more employable by providing up-to-date employment trends.
