The translator supports the Company with converting written or spoken material from one language to another, ensuring the original meaning, context and tone are preserved.

  • Knowledge of ResponsibleSteel requirements for reduction of environmental impacts and energy reduction, concerns for local communities and stakeholders, and/or preservation of diversity.
  • Conveying the meaning and style of the original text in the Japanese and English languages, while maintaining accuracy and cultural references.
  • Utilizing specialized dictionaries, glossaries, and translation tools to ensure accurate and consistent terminology.
  • Reviewing and correcting translated texts and audio for accuracy, clarity, and consistency.
  • Communicating with clients, customers and employees to understand project requirements and deadlines and potentially collaborating with other translators or subject matter experts.
  • Managing workload and meeting deadlines for translation projects.

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or equivalent work experience
  • Fluency in the Japanese and English languages with excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to analyze text, research terminology, and identify the most appropriate translation strategies
  • Proficiency in using translation software and other relevant technologies
  • In-dept knowledge in manufacturing, steel industry a plus
  • Strong technical and analytical problem-solving skills, mechanically inclined a plus
  • Ability to successfully perform multiple tasks with strict deadlines and little or no direct supervision
  • Ability to organize, prioritize daily work and maintain strict confidentiality
  • Competent in Microsoft applications including Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Able to contribute positively as part of a team, helping with various tasks as required

This position requires the ability to work in office settings with tasks in the mill, which could typically involve extreme environments from hot to cold. This position can require long hours, weekend and holiday coverage to support routine responsibilities and travel.
