The David Suzuki Foundation is a Canadian environmental non-profit organization, founded in 1990. We operate in English and French, with offices in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal. We are a Canadian settler organization working to advance climate solutions, help nature thrive and build sustainable communities, respecting the rights, title and sovereignty of Indigenous nations. We believe Indigenous leadership is key to our collective future. We aim to work with a broad spectrum of people and organizations throughout Canada, including Indigenous communities, all levels of government and people who care about environmental justice, to find solutions to create a sustainable Canada.
We use scientific research, traditional ecological knowledge, innovative policy and legal solutions, communications and public engagement to pursue our mission to protect nature’s diversity and the wellbeing of all life, now and for the future. Fondée en 1990, la Fondation David Suzuki est un organisme environnemental canadien à but non lucratif. Job Description
TITLE: Translator/editor
DEPARTMENT: Engagement
TERMS: Permanent full-time position (34 hours per week, Monday to Thursday).
LOCATION: Montreal (Kanien’kehà:ka territory)
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The position is hybrid, with a combination of remote work and 4/month required in-office days.
REPORTS TO: Senior Manager, Communications

QUALIFICATIONS

We understand that experience can look different for everyone. Please share yours as it relates to:

• University degree in translation, communications, social sciences or a related field, and more than three years’ progressive experience in translation and editing.
• Certification by the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec (OTTIAQ) — an asset.
• Good organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to adapt and be flexible.
• Exceptional written communication skills in French; excellent communication skills in English.

QUALIFICATIONS

THE ROLE

As a translator/editor for Quebec, your expertise in translating from English into French and in editing French texts is essential. You also have knowledge of various environmental issues, including environmental justice.
You will work with the Quebec-based French communications team and other David Suzuki Foundation (DSF) teams to translate and revise texts for external and internal communications.
You will excel in your mastery of the French language and will be an indispensable asset in implementing projects that will help the DSF, a bilingual organization, achieve its objectives.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Translation (50%)

• Work in close collaboration with the senior communications manager as well as the Francophone Communications team and other teams at DSF to translate texts from English into French.
• Coordinate translation requests for texts such as web content, blog posts, news releases, newsletters and other external communications.
• Respond to translation requests for internal texts, such as guides or policies.
• Ensure that the translation respects the DSF brand image and is of outstanding quality.
• Contribute and advise the team on good translation practices.

Editing (40%)

• Revise French texts written by members of the DSF team or other external individuals and organizations.
• Maintain and ensure the use of inclusive writing.
• Contribute to the Guide de normes éditoriales.
• Ensure that revised texts respect the DSF’s brand image and the recommendations of the Office québécois de la langue française.

Communications support (10%)

• Provide expert recommendations on French language to the team.
• Participate in Francophone communications meetings and other meetings as needed.
