About the company

Coolways Solution Pty Ltd is the employing entity within the Coolway Trans Group, an Australian-owned refrigerated transport and cold-chain logistics operator.

The Group operates a fleet of temperature-controlled prime movers and refrigerated trailers from depots in Jandakot, Western Australia; Glendenning and Yennora, New South Wales; Epping, Victoria; and Morningside, Queensland. The Group also operates a fleet of refrigerated rail containers on the east–west corridor, moving temperature-controlled freight in conjunction with national rail operators.

We provide refrigerated line-haul, metropolitan distribution, storage and associated cold-chain logistics services to customers throughout Australia.

About the role

Coolways Solution Pty Ltd is seeking an experienced Transport Company Manager to direct and control the operational and commercial performance of our refrigerated transport operations from our Jandakot depot.

Reporting to the Head of National Operations, the successful applicant will have responsibility for fleet operations, transport scheduling, customer service, depot performance, operational budgets, employees and regulatory compliance.

The Jandakot depot is the Group’s Western Australian base for interstate road train line-haul and for the cartage of rail-carried refrigerated freight to and from intermodal terminals operated by Pacific National and Aurizon. The depot also incorporates on-site freezer and chiller storage supporting the Group’s transport operations. In addition to accountability for the Western Australian operation, the position directs the Group’s national refrigerated rail container fleet across the east–west corridor and manages the line-haul drivers accredited for corridor operations.

The position will oversee the Jandakot depot and Western Australian line-haul and metropolitan distribution operations while coordinating with interstate depots, customers, suppliers and workshops.

This is a senior, hands-on management position requiring strong commercial, operational and people-management capabilities.

Key responsibilities

  • Direct and control the operational and commercial performance of the company’s refrigerated transport operations.
  • Plan and coordinate the arrival, turnaround and dispatch of interstate road trains at the Jandakot depot, including load planning, driver allocation and scheduling of return loads.
  • Coordinate the cartage of rail-carried refrigerated freight to and from intermodal terminals, including container collection and delivery scheduling, and liaison with rail operators and terminal staff.
  • Direct the allocation, utilisation and turnaround of the Group’s national refrigerated rail container fleet across the east–west corridor, including scheduling of container movements between eastern and western depots and liaison with rail operators on capacity and service performance.
  • Manage road train assembly and breakdown at the depot and ensure compliance with Western Australian road train access, route and permit conditions.
  • Manage the acquisition, replacement and disposal of prime movers, refrigerated trailers, refrigeration units and ancillary transport equipment.
  • Oversee preventative servicing programs, workshop arrangements, refrigeration-unit maintenance and bulk-fuel supply arrangements.
  • Monitor fleet availability, utilisation, fuel consumption, maintenance costs and operating performance.
  • Meet with customers to determine their freight, delivery and cold-chain service requirements.
  • Advise customers on appropriate vehicle configurations, service capabilities, transport conditions, cartage rates and contractual terms.
  • Manage key customer relationships, negotiate freight rates and service terms, and resolve escalated customer complaints.
  • Oversee the receipt and processing of customer orders, freight bookings and transport instructions.
  • Develop, approve and monitor line-haul and metropolitan transport schedules.
  • Direct the allocation of vehicles, refrigerated trailers and drivers to meet customer requirements and operational priorities.
  • Set and monitor the carriage and storage conditions required to maintain product integrity, including temperature set points, refrigeration monitoring and cold-chain documentation.
  • Coordinate the collection and delivery of freight and the movement of vehicles between depots, customer sites and workshops.
  • Oversee the operation of on-site freezer and chiller storage in support of the depot’s transport operations, including space utilisation, stock movement and temperature compliance.
  • Maintain operational and commercial records and prepare management reports covering fleet utilisation, on-time delivery performance, cost per kilometre, transport expenditure and operating margin.
  • Prepare and control operational budgets, monitor transport costs and implement productivity and efficiency improvements.
  • Lead depot supervisors, transport allocators, drivers and other operational employees.
  • Manage the Group’s line-haul drivers accredited for east–west corridor operations, including allocation, rostering, performance management and compliance supervision across the corridor.
  • Manage workforce planning, recruitment, rostering, training, development, performance management and employee conduct.
