POSITION-: TRANSPORT MANAGER
BHC is one of the UK’s leading Structural Steel Fabrication and Construction Companies supplying and erecting fabricated steel nationwide within the UK and Ireland.
We currently have a vacancy for a Transport Manager within our facility at Carnwath. This is a hands-on role supporting the compliant and efficient movement of materials and fabricated steel across our supply chain, from supplier to customer.
You will assist in leading a team of drivers, sub-contractors and yard operatives whilst overseeing vehicle compliance and maintenance, and ensure high standards of safety, customer service and operational efficiency.
SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
· A UK Class 1 CE Licence is desirable but not essential
· Transport Managers CPC
· Ability to work to strict deadlines,
· Good Geographical knowledge
· Confident, polite and a team-player,
· Flexible, Hardworking and Self-motivated.
The successful candidate will be a strong communicator at all levels, with a proactive, pragmatic, and hands on approach. Excellent problem-solving and interpersonal skills are essential, along with the ability to prioritise a varied and demanding workload.
We are looking for someone with outstanding planning and organisational abilities, and proven experience in a supervisory or managerial role. A background in transport management or a similar position is essential, along with a thorough understanding of legal compliance, drivers’ hours, and regulations.

· Assist in managing the day-to-day operations of the Transport Department
· Assist in leading and coaching drivers and sub-contractors
· Planning efficient delivery routes and identifying cost-saving opportunities
· Overseeing vehicle servicing, maintenance, and safety compliance
· Ensuring regulatory compliance with transport legislation and DVSA standards
· Working to and completing where required all transportation documentation.
· Supporting and delivering successful FORS (Fleet Operator Recognition Scheme) audits, ensuring all processes, vehicles, and operations meet the required standards audits.
· Organising vehicle loading and steel lotting within Tekla models
· Arrange escorted loads where required
· Supporting Estimating and Construction departments with technical advice
· Managing documentation, training, customer queries, and department standards
· Manage the induction and ongoing training of new and existing staff, ensuring that all drivers and relevant personnel are trained in compliance, safety procedures, and operational best practices.
· Maintain accurate administrative records, including fuel logs, maintenance schedules, and any incident or accident reports. Ensure that records are up-to-date and in line with legal requirements.
· Handle any customer complaints or queries in a courteous and timely manner, working to resolve issues quickly and maintaining high customer satisfaction levels.
· Ensure the transport department maintains high standards of cleanliness, and organisation, in both the office and yard areas.
